Boot courtesy lights on the blink

Very happy new (1998) XJ8 owner here. Gorgeous car and so relaxing to drive (well I do have a TVR!). Just one minor fault with the boot light. They don't come on when I open the boot but both the bulbs and fuse appear to be fine. Does anyone have any idea what the fault might be?

I would check the wiring coming through the rh boot hinge - common fault with the design, also check the micro switch on the boot lock can stick - I had both problems with mine
