Had the chance at the weekend to take out an XK Coupe, as jaguar sent their range to my local dealership for customers to test drive.
The XK was terrific in Sport mode but I thought it was slow on pickup in Drive, apart from that thoroughly enjoyed the experience with one exception, the wind noise from the wing mirrors at 60 mph, I got back into my X sport and at 60mph realised how quiet the wind noise was from the wing mirrors. The XK was a 55 plate so I assume it was an early factory build have they subsequently made improvements, to the sound insulation around the wing mirrors, long drives on motorways would be spoilt by the buffeting noise

Don't tell me it came from the passenger side mirror? I thought exactly the same thing and complained to Jaguar.

The XK is for softies, the XKR is the one you want.

Definately, the whine of the supercharger will more than take care of any wind noise. That and you'll be laughing far to much to notice (hopefully).

23rd November eh? It's as though the thing is already released.

Was at my Jag dealer today, had a flick through the 'new Xk' personalisation brochure and low and behold my prayers have been answered. You can get proper, genuine, wire mesh a la out going XKR, for the new XK. Looks a million times better, why it isn't on the car as standard I have no idea.

Actually the sound came from both mirrors, my wife complained how noisy it was on the passenger side and I thought the seal might have gone on the drivers side, but no just the sound around the mirror.

Weird that they are the same mirrors as on the S, X, etc. I thought it was how the air was spilling off the wiper blades, but that made no differnce. I hope they get it sorted, coz it is too noisy.

They should really have just redesigned them. As you say, they're the same mirror unit as the X,S & XJ. Would've been nice to see a change.

I agree Phil
You can't tell me that the noise engineers at Jaguar never had it in a wind tunnel to see the eddie currents created over the mirrors., that generate the noise.
The same mirrors but different car frontal appearance (x,s,xj, xk) is bound to cause a different flow over the mirrors, possibly a new mirror design appropriate to the xk's frontal appearance would have been more than nice, I'd say a necessity, a great car ruined because the bean counters had a few spare mirrors in stock, when a new appropriate design was required.
No wonder people are trading 06XK's in for the XKR, the preferred supercharger whine will cover the howling wind noise over the wing mirrors. But I was getting the intrusive noise on A roads at 60mph. the majority of driving done in the UK regardless of what car you have.

I can't defend it at all, it was something I picked up on too equally the first time I drove one. Once the grin factor lessened and I began to look at the car objectively anyway.

Myself and Triple7 were at Goodwood today blatting around in S Type Rs, XJRs as well as the new XKRs.

Had a great time, but in my enjoyment forgot to listen out for the mirror wind noise.

I think 777 took some pics, I had my camera bolted to my car hoping to be able to take that round to do a 'Before n after' without any luck

I was fortunate that I took the S out first then the XJ followed by the XKR.
I had not been sold on the XK8 but the XKR is GREAT, shame about the price but then 12 months down the line there should be some good second hand ones around.

The XKR will be in the showrooms November. but Jaguar would not be drawn on then the XKR-R will be out!

The wind noise had gone as far as I was aware at 100+mph today and it was hissing down with rain.

Nov 23rd is XKR day!

Pics (only a few, hard to catch an Jag-u-'R at speed!!) and some crappy vid later.

Review in another post.

Is that an official day, in that they have loads of XKR's ready made waiting to be given to buyers, or is that just an estimate as to the day when the first XKR will roll off the production line?

I havent been given a date yet, they just said December. Come to think of it I have been asking for a brochure for 6 weeks and they still havent mailed me one yet! Phil, any chance you can oblige instead?!
