Replacement Stereo for 2000 XK8

I have a 2000 XK8n with the factory fit premium 6 CD changer in the boot. When I use it now, it frequently decides that it no longer can find the CDs in the 6 slots. I am unsure if this will be a fault in the actual CD unit, or the disk changer in the boot.

I also get (when it is working) a lot of skip, when going over any sort of uneveness in the road. I have asked about it at my local dealership, and they decided it would be cheaper to just replace rather than try and find the problem.

I think I have 4 options

1. Find the same unit at a breakers and replace like for like
2. Take it to a audio shop and see if they can find the fault and fix
3. Replace the unit with a non-jaguar one (and see if I can find one that can have audio feed from a MP3 player, that way I would rarely use a CD)
4. Listen to the radio !

I wonder if anyone has any views, or a similar experience and can point me in the right direction
