XKR RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE
Discussion
Hello all,
Does anyone know what would cause my 99 S XKR Convertible to tell me that it has RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE? The car has previously had very little use for the past 2 years (only about 2500miles in 2 years) and I have just done a long trip in it.
The Manual tells me to contact my Jag Dealer but I haven't had the best of luck with them in the past. Only the amber light is on at the moment so it can still be driven but I obviously need to get it sorted, but would like a little more knowledge before proceeding.
Any advice would be kindly received.
Cheers
Jon

The amber warning light tells you to get your car looked at ! Without any details other than the light there is little chance anyone can diagnose it. It might be nothing on the other hand it might blow up and cause major damage. If it is nothing it should clear when you turn off the ignition, if it returns it will log a fault code that a dealer can interpret. Replacement engines cost in the region of £7500
If it doesn't get much use, it could be that the battery is very low. When this happens, all sorts of odd things occur. Try putting it on a trickle charger for a good few hours then re-start it. If the warning light is still on, a dealer visit is called for (or an independant with the WDS system).
Jon your profile does not give a clue to where you live. If other menbers new you may will be given some tips as what independent Jaguar dealers to go to.
The other forum to go to is the XK8/R Enthusiasts Club. Join them on www.xkec.co.uk you can then get int there forum, very helpfull bunch.
You may then want to use your car more often on their gatherings!

Battery as Phil points out is generally the problem. If it has had a total discharge, then it may need to be replaced, even 1v low can cause erroneous messages. However the lack of use is another concern, I assume the car hasn't been serviced. Most people do it on mileage, but it is every 12 months the Jag needs servicing regardless if it is driven, so there may well be a problem. Not taking the car to dealers coz you don't like 'em is one thing, but there are lots of Jag dealers out there and after 5 years I would only take the car to an independant, there is no point spending £100/hr on labour.
Like Norm says, give us a clue where you are??
