I'm looking at one of these for the family car...anybody know if they are any good!
Do they have enough power bearing in mind the wife will drive it most of the time.
Is it ford running gear and engine etc...
Post your thoughts.....
Supes.

The engine is unique to Jaguar, made in a Ford facility. The auto is used in X-Type and Land Rover Freelanders.

I think the engine is a little undersized but if you are happy with the performance go buy one.

The power aspect isn't a problem really, it's the fuel economy that's terrible. You'll find that there isn't a huge amount of difference between that and the 2.5 (in my experience and contrary to official stats, the 2.5 is actually more frugal!). You also get 4wd with the 2.5 another added benefit.

As far as i'm aware it isn't actually ford running gear, it's purely the floor plan that originates from the Mondeo.

I am on my second 2.5 and agree with Phil the 2.5 is a better car(awd more power)and not the thirst of the 3.0. The 2.0 V6 actually nearly 2.1 is an underbored 2.5/3.0 block same engine. When the diesel 2.0 arrived sales of the 2.0 petrol died almost immediately and the engine is no longer offered. Thinking into the future you may find it hard to shift the 2.0 petrol, the diesels 2.0 and 2.2 thrash it on economy and it doesn't have the benefit of the AWD of it's bigger 2.5/3.0 petrol brothers.

So I guess the better buy would be the 2.5 sport...Thanks for input.

Just bought a 3Lt Sport Premium X Type Estate, what a car, drives as it on rails.

It is a Manual version with EVERY bell and whistle that Jaguar list as an optional extra.

It makes a lovely stable mate for the XKR

I've got a 3.0ltr Sport. Fanatstic value for money, no issues of note, but the very first cars I would avoid. Forget the 2.0ltr, depending on budget (wouldn't spend more £12.5k (-£15k if you find 'the one) get the 3.0ltr. The 4 wheel drive is a great feature. I get an average of 25mpg and it has plenty of poke, the auto is fab but the manual is more 'fun'. The only thing I don't like about the X is the spongey brakes (and crashy ride, but I have 18's on mine - but the ride has been much improved with later cars.)

If you don't want to spend too much, buy a 2002/03 3.0ltr Sport, but get it with all the electric features- auto climate / elec seats, mirrors, windows etc. If you don't want to lose too much money but prefer to spend more , then go out and get the 2.2ltr diesel.
