I have a 99 XJ8 and after reading through most posts have decided its time for some tensioners as i get the 'death rattle' a little from start up, there is no sign of any Nikasil problems so thats a relief! The only problem being is im on a bit of a budget of late due to my girlfriend having to quit work due to me getting her 'up the duff' lol. To try get the cost down i was going to try buy the metal kit myself, anybody know where i can get one?(1), Also would my local non dealer garage be able to do the job without any specialist tools?(2), If i were to get it done at a main dealer how much would it cost in total inc all parts etc and a blow by test?(3). Anybody know of a Jaguar specialist in the Oxfordshire area?(4). Very sorry about all the questions but i think you will all understand my concerns. Thanks in advance.

How competant are you as a mechanic ? An XKEC member made his own cam locking tool and carried out the work himself (www.xkec.co.uk for details) The job is straight forwrd if you have the time, space , tools and instructions. If you go wrong you can destroy the engine. Total job usually costs about £1500 depending on where you take your car.
