X300 XJR new back axle
Discussion
Just a quick question - has anyone here had a new back axle on a XJR S6?
My dad has been waiting for 5 weeks to have this work done by a main dealer. They said it would take at worst a week. It's his main work car too and the Xtype they gave us for a courtesy car is more expensive to run since the XJR has an LPG conversion. We are not happy bunnies, and I was wondering if anyone has had this work done, and your experiances if you have.
thanks.

What's the delay? Is the part on back order or something?
The saga continues...
Jaguar dealership cancelled the USA diff, and have ordered one from Germany. They have done some other work on the car in the meantime - ABS pump, traction contol, new manifold due to crack etc. They rang up to say that the car was ready, but father says to keep it as he doesn't want to drive it in it's noisy condition. He suspects the diff will seize in the next few hundred miles - he inspects car comonents for a living. Jaguar say ok, but ask for the X type courtesy car back (btw we had so sort our own insurance for it at our cost). This leaves father without car, so he's using our race prep TR4 and a pushbike whilst Jaguar are waiting the diff. One word to sum it up - crap.
Suffice to say he will NEVER be using Stratstone again, and won't buy another Jag.

Mercedes always make my wife insure their loaner cars, at our expense.
Still at the dealers, the diff they ordered was actually a Stype R diff, so won't fit.
Monkeys. Diff from Germany still on back order. They had the cheek to send a text message to father asking him if he wanted to buy a new Jag from them. He told them where to go.
We've done some work to our Maserati Biturbo to get it through the MOT, but it split a water hose under the induction and fueling gear on the top of the block. A big job to dismantle everything to get to it.

eta: Father is going to Stoneleigh Jag spares day in a couple of weeks, so may have some luck there!

Still no car, we have had our tempremental Maserati Biturbo on the road after having a couple of split engine hoses replaced, but a turbo went bang on the way back to Derby from Southampton.
Back to the Triumph - pretty poor in this bad weather with its Yokohama track tyres.
My Dad is seriously considering just going and buying a newish car, paying for the existing work on the XJR and cutting his losses. he's thoroughly fedup with the whole thing.
Very disappointed in dealership service on a 10 year old XJR, which only needed a new differential on the back axle - it's been some 11 weeks at the dealership, and was booked for the work 2 weeks prior to that - 13 weeks.

This is seriously taking the piss.
Have you tried EuroJags?
I've never tried them, but they claim to have new, used and reconditioned Jag parts and list things like axels on their anoying website. try www.eurojag.com/

Well, our diff hunt is over. A friend of ours was selling his Turbo Technics XJR at Stoneleigh, and the chap from Covcats who bought it, happened to have a diff in his garage. The diff was dropped on the dealership desk this morning (literally, and from a height) and car should be ready by the end of the week.
There are S-types that have been waiting at the dealership for a couple of weeks for airboxes, looks like official parts supplys are drying up.

Glad you were able to sort something. There was lots of good stuff at Stoneleigh, I could have spent a fortune, well the misses already thinks I spent a fortune, but it could have been worse
Have you concidered that this garage just likes collecting cars? Perhaps they haven't worked out that they can't bill the customer till the work is finished.

To be honest, I have forgotten how many weeks they have had the car, but it's well over 3 months now.
A few weeks in the workshop manager told us that the diff had been taken off ready for the new part to arrive and be fitted, and the car was ready on the ramp. They preceded to do the other jobs, manifold, ABS sensor, Traction control sensor, and were waiting for the diff to arrive.
You know the rest...........
Diff dropped on the managers desk by my angry father - and yes there were plenty of customers about to hear his choice words, and they said they MIGHT be able to do the car for Friday.
Father rang today to check progress, and spoke to the Dealership Manager this time. He said that they have had to let the diff bolts soak, as they haven't been touched since the car left the factory. How can this be when the diff was taken off ready for the new one to be fitted. Lies, more lies, and more bloody lies.
So the upshot is that the car will not be ready tomorrow, goodness knows when we will see it again.
It has cost us:
Loss of main business vehicle
Loss of company image for customer visits
Petrol prices compared to LPG
Indirectly repair bills on Masertai Biturbo (££££
Wear and Tear on our trackday car
Mileage on my car
Time, hastle and expense of traveling by train to customer appointments
Time and hastle in finding a diff and doing the dealerships bloody job for them.
Such a shame, as Jaguar was once a great mark, and something to aspire to. They have lost our custom, and the way this particular dealership is run, good luck to Ford or the new buyers of Jaguar.

A shame you didn't see this thread before now. Apparently, the suppliers to jaguar have stopped making the gears for the diff. - don't trust their info, but that's what we were told.
I'll bear you in mind if this goes tits up (again). Thx.
P.S. Jaguar still got the car...

This is unbelievable, I have BRAND new ones of those in stock!
Is it too much to ask to get it rebuilt? i could have done that in literally 2 days, with all new seals, bearings, AND overhauled the LSD if needed

Errrrm, since when has an XJR had a limited slip diff? Or am I being thick and you are referring to something else known as an LSD?
