Hi all, looking for some help choosing which coupe to go for, its a toss up between a 4.2 Cerbera or a Jag XKR. Having had great experience with both brands in the past it makes it a tough one. The Jag would appear not have tha realiabilty question mark over it and looks I think as good as a Cerbera but would be thirsty and it will have the unexiting auto box. The Cerbera however will have awesome performance, looks and will probably have a higher resale value but if I have engine probs which I know these cars are prone to if not looked after, It could become a very costly exercise.
I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Have owned both, and would say, without any shadow of a doubt.... it depends.
Very much depends on what you're using the car for - how many miles a year, how much "fun" driving, how much for work, how much would it matter if you were late for a meeting as you'd needed to switch to a taxi/hire car, what have you got as up-front capital, what can you afford in running costs, how long would you keep it for, etc. So very, very many factors.
For what it's worth, the Cerb was more reliable - it blew one fuse in 12 months that took a long-reach socket set to sort out. The XKR, on the other hand, had the AA called out on 4 separate occassions for the electrics packing in and leaving me stranded. Entirely luck of the draw, and I bet there are 10 stories of Cerb woes and Jag perfection as anecdotal counter-evidence, too.
How about an early Cerb and an early XK8 as a daily driver?

Funnily enough, I sold my Cerb a few months ago. I'm back in the market now and really fancy the XKR, it seems to combine looks, style and fun with that all important (and non-cerb like) reliability!
I did love the cerb and the sound and performance were awesome, but I hated that pit of the stomach feeling as I approached the car wondering if:
a) The doors would be working
b) It would start
c) The clutch would let me find a gear and
d) Whether there'd be any traffic jams where I'd overheat.
Altho, the girlfriend has been shouting at me a lot lately becasue I did say that perhaps a Chimaera might be worth a look :-)
