O.k whats happening? Im 23 I have a 96 reg XJ Sport a pair or slippers and a pipe.

Yeah the 2nd and 3rd parts a lie but the first is ture. Ive just come from a 98 Corvette C5 5.7 V8 and before that a Twin Turbo Supra which is about right for a 23 year old. But I love my Jag, maybe more than each of my last cars. O.k my dads had a couple of Jags before so theyve always been in the family but the ride quality and performance (217BHP and weighing over 1700Kgs) is amazing. Im looking on ebay every night in hope of buying something for her. I have an empty hole though, the thought that I need the 98 reg 370bhp XJR. The fact its only a little slower than my vette 0-60 harldy matters course I know the Jag can take a corner or 2 in its stride where the american muscle would put me in hospital if i even thought about it. I guess the question im asking is about the running costs, the only fault I can find with the XJ sport is that on average it only does 6MPG more than the corvette, How bad is the XJR compaired with the sport and is it a bullet proof.
Cheers fellow Grandads boyracer will be back shortly!

I think you already know that its not a pipe and slippers car! I had one in my mid 20's, most enjoyable, until I just had to have an 'R'. Expect 15mpg round town and 24 on a long careful run (only managed to do that once!). Mine averages 19mpg over a tank, including Mways, A roads and round town, but I dont wear slippers (or smoke a pipe!).

I bought my XJ Sport 10 years ago and still have it and still love it.
It's been totally reliable, annual services aren't to expensive, at least much cheaper than when I had an Audi, more than the Toyota GT4 I had previously.
What more can I say.
