I went to view an XKR in the above colour on Saturday at the main dealer in Solihull.

The bonnet seemed to be darker than the rest of the front, which the sales guy put down to the fact that it's metal & the lower part is plastic (the bumper), but it also looked different to the wings & they're definitely metal.

The other thing I wasn't keen on was some kind of rough silver coloured under seal, going along the length of the car (low above the sill)

Is this common with that colour ?

The rough undersil you mention is normal (there is a reason why it's there though I can't recall it now). Bumper and Bonnet will be a different colour for the reasons given to you by the Salesman. The wings should be the same colour as the bonnet though as they're both steel.

BTW, Anthracite is black. Was it meteorite or something?

Sorry Mr H, "Platinum"....I think I've been reading about wheels too much.

The bonnet & wings looked ok at some angles, I'll put that down "flat surface versus rounded surface" or try looking at another first.

Bonnet is susceptable to stone chips and may have been resprayed. It is very hard to match silvers, so I have been taught!

It doesn't sound like anything to worry about really. Obvious signs to check though are the edges, any build up of excess paint, drip marks etc? Any foreign bodies in the paint (small lumps of dust, grit that sort of stuff), anything else that looks a bit 'iffy' in comparison to the rest of the bodywork like orange peeling etc.

As G said, it's notoriousley difficult to get a good silver match.

It's put me off that one slightly. I'm a finicky so & so, and I know that every time I see it, I'll be tempted to get it re painted.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for another colour, me thinks
