Hi,

Just wondering if anybody can measure the width of an XJR engine. Ive been offered an 4.0 V8 1999 for £500 complete with superchargers etc, still running in car Sounds a bargain way to cheap HP to me ???

Ive looking at droping it in my TVR Chimera and junking the Rover V8...space is tight so if anyone could have a measure I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Neal

Have you tried ringing a dealer and asking to see their technical manuals?

Failing that, i'm pretty sure there's a website linked to jaguar.com called global technical reference or something that might be able to help: www.jaguar.co.uk/uk/en/owners/information/technical_guides.htm?route=_uk_en_owners_information_overview@__link__InfoBlockLink_4

The max width across the exhaust manifold shields is 700mm (this is the engine decking plane limit for engine installation). The widest part across the base engine is the cam-covers and that is ~674mm. Length from Rear Face of Block to front of cam cover ~625mm. Height from crank centreline to top of manifold ~460mm. It could be a very tight squeeze in terms of width, are you intending to cut bodywork or even chassis rails?

As your looking to put it into a Chimaera it may be worthwhile looking at using the oilpan from the new Land Rover Discovery. The jag one will have all the oil pan volume at the far front of the engine as the steering rack goes behind it. The disco's oil volume is all in a deep-well at the back and will be very good in cornering in lateral G effects on the oil-level. The Range-Rover one may be OK but the diff is solidly mounted to the oilpan, whereas the disco's diff is attached to the chassis, this makes the RR one heavier and more expensive.
