Looking at xkr, new owner only had it 6 months saying needs to sell it for a practical car.

Checked service history, lancaster confirmed that they last saw car in december, but only for a look at. Noted it had a squeak on SUpercharger, but no work taken out. Do not know if expensive to replace? As the current owner then sold it

Maybe its the real reason for new owner selling

Crazy idea here; why don't you ring Lancaster and ask them?

Don't ask them about the specific car then. Ask them theoretically, "If a car has a squeak on the supercharger, what could it be and what would it cost me".

Have done that they say it could just be a bearing or then again it might be some thing more

Well unless you get it inspected then you'll never know.

I trust that you are not talking about the Supercharger whine which clearly you are not going to eliminate nor should wish to.

The supercharger is knackered, throw it away. In fact, I'll come and collect it and 'throw it away' for you. Really, I don't mind.

Worst case, brand new M112 would be about £1000 from Jag or £1500 from Eaton, or you can buy second hand for about £300, or maybe, just maybe, you can talk somebody into throwing away a perfectly good one so that you can get it for free?

Anyway, update jag got back to me today, on info about car. it recently had new throtttle body fitted on recall apparently the car had nearside damage back in 2002, not sure how bad, but owner reckons its hpi clear, as he got a RAC inspection when he bought it

Get somethingelse, there are many around. Did it go to a Jag approved bodyshop, were Jags parts used etc etc. Walk away, it is not unheard of for the blower to go, and it will ruin your engine.

A new Supercharger is about £1500 from Eaton, you can pick up pre-owned ones for about £200 + on e-bay (i did) and you can if it is just the bearings get them refurbished for about £700. However superchargers are not usually squeaky, they usually graunch when broken. What does squeal are all the belts if not seated properly and also the tensioner for the supercharger belt has bearings , these can squeak. A replacement supercharger belt tensioner is about £70. Mine has squeaked for about 18 mnths now and would have been replaced at the last service if the garage had of bought the part rather than just checked it and agreed with my previous diagnosis

Thanks for advice on supercharger.

Just be told by Jag that the car had nearside damage to it back in 2002, but yet owner says it hpi clear, not sure to what extent damage was

Trog, HPI only states if the car has severe damage i.e. write-off, not if it has had a shunt. Watch the corrosion etc.

going to walk on this one told there should be plenty for sale when new R is launched.. so does hpi only have info on cars that have been totally written off. Noticed a few on ebay advertised as CAT ds

The HPI will contain any information declared to the DVLA/Police. Any MAJOR accident resulting in some kind of 'write off'. If the car has been stolen, colour change, outstanding finance etc.

And don't forget about all the car's out there that should have been written off via insurance, but were non insured drivers (drink drivers, traders and other third party only policies etc)

frightening, as some of these cars look as good as new afterwards, suppose an inspection is mandatory

Mine had a bit of a squeaky rattle on it.

Turned out to be the idle pulley.

£29 for the part and half an hour's labour......
