X Type Transmission

Took a test drive in a used 3.0Ltr Sport X Type, Manual, When I put my foot down the engine revs surged momentarily then dropped back to match road speed, rather like an auto would, but as this was a manual car it seemed mighty strange. Suspected clutch slip but this was not the case. Could this be a viscous diff slipping? Or is it a case of 'they all do that'

I've got a 2.2D Sport and it does not do this at all.

My 3.0ltr Sport does NOT do this, looks like it needs a new clutch.

Thanks for the replies, there had to be a reason why the car was so cheap !!
