Jaguar XKR escapes
Pics of supercharged beauty now out
Jaguar's new supercharged sports XKR -- due to make its global debut here in the UK at the British International Motor Show -- has escaped. Pictures were due at the show but they're all over the Web.
The XKR will be produced at the company's Castle Bromwich manufacturing centre in Birmingham. In addition to being the assembly plant for three of Jaguar's four models, this is also where the aluminium bodies and structures for the XJ and XK are constructed.
If you go, don't forget to come and say hello at the PistonHeads stand (no 548).

Lower front valance, bigger wheels, some scoops in the bonnet, some bling bits and a higher price tag. Straight out of the 1988 Escort model range, XR3i page.
You mean the same thing that every manufacturer does when they release a more extreme version of an existing car? Or do you mean the same things that were on the old xkr? Quite a shocker that Jag would put bigger wheels, skirts and some vents on a top level model eh? I was expecting it to have a bootlid which clearly doesnt fit the car to follow the german trend....

Why's it so slow?
The standard XK only weights about 20KG more than the AMV8, the XKR will weight a bit more sure, but not enough to counter act all that power advantage over the Aston. So why is it being quoted so much slower to 60?

*cough* marketing hierarchy *cough*
People need a reason to buy an AMV8 otherwise they would all see that they can get an XKR that looks the same and goes faster for cheaper. Also there is an XKR-R model coming along at some point so they need to leave some wiggle room for that as well.
I would they would change the wheels for the proper XKR as well, making me think this is possibly a fanciful XK8 photochop.

WTF!!!! Who is directed at kids, or would be Jag owners! The grilles look cheap and tacky, the rest of it is fine. I agree, why a car with 116BHP more than the standard XK is only 0.5sec faster to 62mph?

Depends how the power is delivered.
With a blooming great big supercharger! :d Doesn't seem any point in getting it for the sake of 0.5 sec

XKR 0-60 in >5 seconds'ish?!
The XJR saloon is: heavier, bigger, less aerodynamic(?), cheaper (although no confirmed prices on XKR yet), less powerful, better equipped, not styled by Halfords and... 0-60 in 5 secs.
Although I guess my views may change if I have a mid-life crisis, become obsessive with my gym membership and buy a hair-piece!
Now where did I leave that hair dye?

Agreed, another couple of explanations could be that these aren't the actual figures, seeing as this isn't the actual release of info but a leak, and that perhaps the gear ratios are such on the xkr that she needs another change up to hit 62 over the standard car. either way, 0-60 is increasing meaningless these days, a standing quarter mile of some such is more indicative.
