Even though the company literature describes the car as "the most technologically advanced Jaguar ever," it doesn't feel like a science experiment -- and it doesn't even have adjustable cup holders.

Confirmation that the new XK is not a 'womans car'.

Excellent, now that's cleared up, where do I sign?

Not sure why "Adjustable cup holders" would make it a womans car?
My wife's never used the cup holders in her car...
but the first thing she does look for in a new car is does it have a good mirror for doing your make up. You know the thing lights and all that....

The review was written by a woman, she wanted adjustable cup holders, it doesn't have them - ergo, it's not a suitable car for her.

Ofcourse, the same logic could be applied to the fact that she is American. Ergo, the new XK is not for women, or Americans. Now I really, really want one!!!

With the cornering force likely in the new XK, cup holds without gimbals are probably not a good idea. Not unless you like cleaning coffee stains off cream leather anyway.

I still maintain that real XKs don't have cup holders.

I've never understood the cupholder thing - never felt the need for one, never used one. The Daimler had pinic tables - you used them whilst parked!

(Interestingly I have NO cupholders on my - fully loaded - 02 Saab Aero conv - I noted in the owners manual that they are installed "for certain markets only" - I suspect USA?)

Some of the SUVs and Minivans over here have like 15 cupholders in them and seat perhaps 8 people, Why?..

That is hideousley refined. I remeber eating a Big Mac off the picnic trays in a £70k super V8 sat in our showroom once. Those were the days *sniff*

OK. Living as I do a mile from the largest volume Jaguar dealership in the world in metro Detroit I get to see a lot of people driving Jags every day. And most people drink coffee waiting in traffic when commuting into work. Having read the review and knowing the reviewer the comments were only to be expected.

HOWEVER.....

If the people laying down a King's ransom to buy a new car want to have decent cup holders so they can enjoy their Starbucks latte going into work and the car they really want doesn't have them, but another almost as good car does, it really could swing the purchasing decision. Therefore give them good cup holders....

Over here people have been prosecuted for eating an apple whilst stuck in a traffic jam.

They're obviously not paying full attention to their driving!

On a recent tour of the Jaguar Engineering Centre at Whitley, we were informed, and only partly in jest, that as America is Jaguars most important market, they had to accommodate the American 'customer focus groups' requirements.

We were told that the true test of whether a Jaguar will be successful isn't "Will it take two golf bags", but "Does it have adjustable cupholders".

Apparently our American cousins want cup holders that will take anything from a small Starbucks espresso cup to a large 1 litre McDonalds Cola cup

You need cup holders because every other car has cup holders and so if you want to sell some cars you really ought to make the right sort of cupholders available.

I followed a bloke the other week in a Ford GT down Woodward Avenue on his way to work, sipping his "Caribou coffee" at the lights. Seeing a Ford GT is not that big a deal, it was interesting though to see that no matter what the car people want to drink coffee in them.
