XJR V8 ARE THERE ANY PITFALLS

What are the pros and cons of xjr ownership.Ive seen a few on the market for around £15000-£16000.I recently had the pleasure of owning a straight six xjr and found the car to be an absolute dream,could it get any better?Any advice would be appreciated.
Only one 'gotcha' I'm aware of is upto and until 2000 or 2001, the Jaguar V8 engine used 'Nikasil' cylinder linings, so make sure a blow-by test is done.
Bluethunder, FYI - Over the past two months i have looked at quite a few on behalf of my brother (as i am a contractor for Jaguar Cars). We managed to buy a 1998 S reg 62,000 miles blue with Ivory leather, FJSH, excellent condition etc for £15,800. But note that this was by far a nuch nicer car than others we looked at for £17-18K. So take your time and look thouroughly. One other thing is if you were impressed with the straight six you would be very impressed with the V8. Happy hunting.

I think the XJR is the one with the supercharger.
I remember one time down my local dealers, a fellow
customer got charged something like £2,500 for some
supercharger repairs to his XJR.
Seems to be an expensive item when it goes wrong,
allied to the £70 plus VAT an hour the local dealer charges.
I assume you won't be taking your to an official dealer.

Around town I get about 13mpg out of mine. 18-19 mpg on A-roads & Motorways. It is quoted as doing 25 but I've never had that. Might have something to do with me always having the sport mode on though
I was lucky when I bought mine last year as it had a 4 year Jag warranty with it! If you get offered a warranty - take it as I had it serviced 6 months later and the warranty took the brunt of the costs.
I drove a 6 cylinder XJR a few years ago and can say the two biggest differences between the V8 XJR and the straight six are:
1) Smoothness - the V8 is smoother
2) The interior - the V8 is far, far better

On the S type the seats do fold down.
On the X type and the XJ8 they don't.
I think even the new XJ8 doesn't have fold down back seats

don't get anywhere near the suggested fuel consumption.
Over a year's and 10,000 miles careful motoring, I got
19.8 mpg. Quite a way from the 23 or 25 mpg claimed.
I think you have to drive it like a vicar to get anywhere
near. Certainly I can get it down to 7 mpg on a local
road, which has a smallish hill on it.

I get around 23mpg when I put it on cruise control, which I do regularly when I drive a decent distance. And I use sports mode about once every drive just for a laugh...
