Bike Racks for XJ
Discussion
Hi Folks
Got an XJ8 and looking to see if I can get a decent bike rack that can carry 2 bikes. Checked Halfords and the like, but they only have ones that say not suitable for the following vehicles, and don't mention the XJ, but don't say they do fit it. So anyone know where to get some? If I can't get any, I'll need to get a rack for the misses' Corsa instead, and don't fancy driving that anytime we need to take the bikes somewhere.

I don't know their address off the top of my head, but i've had a pendle rack that i bought about 12 years ago and it's still totally solid. They're still making them, and they do a few car-specific models, so they're worth a shot.
Not cheap, I think mine was about 80 quid, but it's top quality and it's lasted.
Hope this helps?

I use a roof mounted bike rack on my X308.
It mounts onto a standard set of Thule roof bars and is a really funky 'counterbalanced lifting arm' which picks the bike up from beside the car and places it upright on the roof with just a little encouragement from your little finger.
Looks like it was made by TUV and I'm pretty certain they were sold in Jaguar showrooms. I'm sure they were expensive, but you may be able to get second hand, although bare in mind it only carries one bike. However, there is no reason why you can't fit two - infact that's what I intend to do if I ever find another one.
Good luck - there is something slightly funky about a Jag saloon with a bike on the roof - and maybe one day with a boat in tow too!

Well going for roof bars in the end. Got a set of paddy hopkirk roof bars hopefully coming today, and then just need to see what bike carriers to add to them. Halfords are doing a pack of 2 for 50 notes, which may not be the best but should be ok for now to see how oftern they are used.
Cheers for the replies folk..

I think I'll be on a V12 by the time I make it as far as Germany - my nerves wouldn't hold out long enough to risk the V8.
