the car a 97 has a slight touch of rust developing at wheel arch, is this normal for year of car. Obviously it will get worse over time. So what would be best cause of action and approximate cost to get car up to scratch, would it be bst getting it cut out. Or would i be best in walking away

I would not expect to find any rust on a '97 car. Sounds like it's possibly had a dodgy repair at some time.

The X300 has most panels zinc coated so I would expect any rust to remain local.

A warning to us all though eh?...My last car, a Ford Granada 1989 is STILL in prisitine condition after almost 100,000 miles...

The only rust is in the front lower section of the rear wheel arch.... I'm watching my 2000 XJ8 closely.......
