I wish they'd changed the styling a bit more. It still looks like a barge. Far too long to be pretty.

I suppose they wouldn't accept my cheque - weight still the same as when I was 16

Although not my cup of tea (2-seater), fine exec car all the same

It will be nice to know the trim levels and optional extras. That way we will know the real cost of the car.

Brilliant! Completes the lineup nicely for Jaguar - as if it has anything wrong with it alredy.
First you have the Best Compact Exec, fantastic 4wd high performance compact country mansion.Next the S-Type Full large Exec German beater by far ie.Handling and 4.2 Engine. Next XJ full Luxury Saloon Rides handles and Goes like a dream and finally XK -God of Everything.
Jag has the best model line up ever. There is'nt a bad Jaguar Not now not then not ever if they dont make the estates and diesels - Excellence has a form

Hope this Jag does indeed take the battle all the way to Stutgart and Bavaria, Jag have not been too successful at this to date - Browns Lane even rumoured to be closing due to Jag not meeting sales targets - that would be a real blow. This Cat must really growl! Good luck.

I couldn't disagree more. They don't have any diesels.
Not that I'd want one, but enough folks do to keep
MB & BMW building them.

They don't have a hatchback - what about a Jag version
of the BMW 3 Series Compact - I'd have one.

They don't do estates - another serious omission from
the range.

And as far as the new XJ8 is concerned

a) my pensioner neighbour's Fiesta got more luggage space
b) the car is just too long for UK car parking spaces.

Have you seen the inside of an X type or an S type ?

Top gear magazine describes them as "Visually, a bit of a
mess" and "Not many folks visual cup of tea".

For a mainstream manufacturer, this is serious news.

One is described as "good to drive, but not
brilliant" and the other is "unremarkable".

I've driven both, and I'd agree with their assessment.

I must have the only bad Jaguar then. The latest adventure
was yesterday, down the local motorway, I experienced a
complete loss of power. Engine running fine, just no power
to the back wheels.

I managed to coast to a halt on the hard shoulder.
God knows what would have happened if I hadn't got out
of the fast lane.

A quick visual check & a restart & it was ok.
But FFS, what a car. Ideally suited to masochists.

IMHO, the wife's 1st gen S-type needs a little help. However, I really like my X-type sport interior, nice Jag shifter and sport grey burlwood detail:

I find everything is in the right place for me and instrumentation is really nice.

Cheers
