Hi

Im used to running TVR and Lotus but am after a V8 auto and have seen the following locally for sale. The prices on these seem all over the place, can you give me any pointers?. A few details first though.

1998 "S" reg with 8 owners!and 75k miles, in dark blue with i think they are called detroit wheels. full history which is mainly jag and was last serviced at 69k by a jag dealer. It needs 2 new tyres and has stone chips on front wings and bonnett and front bumper, so probably a front end respray. Other than that its ok.

Any thoughts?

Assuming it's a coupe, the car (private sale) is worth NO more than £14,000 the two tyres are going to cost you about £200 ea. Nose & front end respray'll be £500+ easily. (if convertible, add £2,000).

The Detroit wheels, I'm imagining, are 20" ones, and as Phil says, the tyres are generally not cheap! There are a few good online tyre suppliers that'll give you much better prices than "about town", though, shout if you need links, etc...

I'm assuming it'll need the tensioner doing at that age if it's not already had, too. And a blow-by test...

thanks Phil%JSG

were haggling over £9800 at present at auction. having come from a speed 6 Tuscan and all "those" issues with that engine im a bit apprehensive about the nikasil and tensioner issues on an XK8. but the car looks great from the divers seat.

Don't you remember saying that the first time you sat in the seat of a Tuscan, too?

(I know I did!)

At least it shouldn't be a 100% chance of failure like the S6!

If it does need a new engine, look to chip them about £7,000
