'R' meet 2nd June
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Apologies for not being a very good stand-in Chairman last night !
I got held up by a customer at Racing Green, but I did get to Elstead Mill at 7:30 p.m.
Didn't see any XKs in the car park - and I was in a Mondeo Estate because I had to take it to Warwick this morning. I bought myself a pint of R Club best bitter and some crisps and sat down at the tables outside to the left of the front door and read the paper. Very relaxing. Noone I recognised came past, so I climbed back in the Mondeo and headed home after an hour - i.e about the time you must have arrived Groomi.
I wonder whether we need to change the day and the time of the monthly meet to lunchtime on Sundays ? I suspect many members are too knackered to bother with a 6:30 p.m. meet on the last evening of a full working week.
Maybe we should also consider ringing the changes on venues because, while I am sure Elstead Mill may be convenient for some, I bet it isn't for everyone. Maybe R Club members might care to answer 3 questions - either publicly or in a private e-mail to NormanD ? :-
a. How long does it take you to drive to Elstead Mill after leaving work on a Friday ?
b. Would you prefer the monthly meets to be on a Sunday at about midday instead ?
And finally,
c. Would you like to propose any alternative venues ?

FWIW, I think a Sunday lunch meet would get a bigger turn-out. Its a great run out with superb food, but a long way on a Fri night from the land that time forgot - Wiltshire!
Thanks for the invite Darren.

Brooklands is a good venue but we could not call it a 'R' club meet
Brooklands let out the Club House for JEC Members on the 3rd Thursday, of course all are welcome to join the JEC as members, but we could not call it a R Club, if we want to talk about the Rs all so well and good.
The other option is that Brooklands open their doors to OTHER Clubs on the second Tuesday at 7:30pm, all would be welcome then, only problem NO food.
On a personal note, I can't make the Mill most weekends due to other commitments, although it is fairly local. The other thing I find is that although I enjoy the food during the week the carvery have always overcooked the meat on Sundays, also very busy with young families.
Hello!
Unfortunately 6:30 on a Friday is a no go for me, quite a trek from deepest Kent and as Chas rightly suggests hard to find the motivation after a working week. A Sunday lunch meet would be more viable or maybe just move the venue around a bit. Anywhere suitable somewhere in the middle (cant think of anywhere off-hand)?
