Morning,

Just looking for a bit of support that everything will be alright, following an incident !

Car was hit whist parked on the street early Friday morning. Initially I didn't notice any damage and attempted to drive to work. It became obviously apparent that there was something seriously wrong with the car.

I managed to pull over safely, only to inspect the car and find the drivers side wheel was not attached to the axle !!!

To cut a long storey short I found out later in the day that neighbour had hit me whist moving his car earlier in the day (a Volvo S80 so well built) and thought he had not caused any damage. As the guy is nice I managed to keep my expletives to a minimum and suggested we let the insurance companies sort it all out.

Must say Jaguar Assist is the best service of it's type I have ever used. One call to a central number and before the end of the day my car was picked up on a covered wagon and transported to the nearest Jaguar Dealer. I also received an immediate courtesy car, via the body shop. Best of all Jaguar Assist followed up on the other drivers insurance stating that I needed a like for like replacement vehicle, I now have a brand new XJ to float around in.

Different beast to my S-Type R but nice in it's own pipe and slippers way.

Anyway back to the original statement, will the repair be OK. I have had cars repaired following accidents before and never felt the same. In my head probably but still something not right.

What do you all think, please share any similar experiences.

Thanks

Darren

When I stuffed my company X-TYPE over a big kerb and into a hedge a couple of years back, a similiar thing happened to me. When it came back from the body shop & out of the work shop I did notice serious wheel judder at speeds over 40mph. Luckily when it went back into the workshop they managed to rectify it properly and it drove perfectly fine after that. It should be ok but don't accept a fob off!

I agree, if it is not perfect DO NOT accept it.

Good luck.

Have just got a quote from the dealer's bodyshop. They are awaiting approval from insurance company but cost for work alone is £9,000+. I have been informed from car hire firm that their costs are around £300 per day. All in all I am guessing £13,000. Phew! glad it's not my claim.

Do any of you have any idea of at what value a car is written off? As book value of mine is around £18k - £19k.

Thanks

What's more shocking is that you didn't notice any damage initially! Sounds like it was ttted at some speed.

Push for a write off as the repair costs are getting the right side of 60% of the cars value.

Debanks,

My S-Type R looks virtually identical to yours.

Cream and charcoal leather interior?

Have finally got my car back after the longest repair ever (probably).

Think that everything is mechanically OK. Have yet to drive the car properly as it ran out of MOT whilst with the body shop!!

But there is one major fault still outstanding and I hoped that the assembled knowledge of the PH Jag community would be able to help me.

When the car was with the body shop (no names but they are the approved Jag repairer in East London / Essex) the battery went totally flat. This has left the sat nav / entertainment console asking for a PIN. This was not handed over to me when I took delivery of the car and the original dealer has no record of it. I have been informed that this could be rectified by removing the unit and getting a serial number from the rear. This has been done and Jag UK informed.

I have now waited over a month for a response to a PIN from Jag UK. What else can I do. All suggestions welcome. As nice as the car sounds I don't want to drive around all the time with now Sat Nav or Radio.

Cheers

Darren

Providing it's a UK car, the radio code is held on the Jaguar warranty database. You'll have to provide proof of ID and ownership though to get it. Strange why they haven't told you that?

Hi Phil,

Problem is Jag UK have no record of it on their database. I belive the car (on a BP51 plate) was a development or very early release and was initially owned direct. I do not have the details of any previous owners.

If you know of any other way of getting this Info I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks

E-mail me the chassis number and whilst I'm not able to tell you what it is, i'll do a bit of digging and might be able to give you a couple of leading questions to use in getting the info from your dealer.

BP51 Plate?

Did you get the car in the last 8 months?
This may be my dads old car erm i dont want to put ur licence plate online so is the last 3 digists K*U?
this was an pre production, like press car owned by jaguar themselves. If you look on the topgear magazine cover of the issue around when the facelift came about youll see the reg starts BP51.
Hope this isnt my dads old jag - luved that car to bits - wish i could afford 1. Unfortunately to put me on the insurance was an outrageous price! damned insurance companies!!!!!!!!
If it is look around in the drivers handbook case. It may be tucked in somewhere as small laminated card with several digits on it. This is the pin to reset the stuff in the car.

Had to use it once when we came back from holiday to a secure car park. Its not the most obvious looking thing. Funny story actually. the guy that moved the car to the front of the yard awaiting our arrival had accidentally set off the immobiliser draining the battery flat. These things happen i suppose. Tried to use a battery starter - not enough to turn those 8 cylinders - Called jag assist who came VERY quickly. Tried with his more powerfull starter thing - nothing. Unfortunatly the car was actually parked in amongst about 40 other cars at the front of the yard which was very tightly packed. Hmm thought us we will push the car over to the large recovery truck and start it of the lorries engine.However.. No power, no releasing electronic handbrake. it took us 30 mins to maneuver (spelled wrong) the recovery truck around all the other cars and near enough to it to get it to the jag so we could get it started then then maneuver the truck back out. But the jag was running low on fuel so we had to follow the recovery truck to the garage and fill the car with the engine running to the distaste of the tennager working at the garage shrieking at us through the tanoi system. eventually we were on our way home!
As i said funny story.
