I know there's been numerous threads on the subject however;

After the beating it's come in for from some of the PH members after Top Gear last week, what do you really think of it?

Great technical advance over previous model.

Good to drive.

Styling - questionable - especially front end

Interior - some cheap looking plastics etc.

Too expensive.

Would be a good everyday car

BUT - I can not envisage buying one and becoming obsessed as I am with my current XK. It just doesn't "Float my Boat"

So, I will not be ordering one

As an every day car the boot might be a little small (I've only looked in the convertable).

Having now seen them around a bit, I like the styling.

There was a lovely black one, with cream leather at Hambledon last weekend.

I've only seen one coupe on the road though, quie a few soft tops both here and in the US.

Hi Phil
Personally I'm quite taken with the looks of XK & didn't think T Gear was too critical. Especially loved the noise of it but I know what some people mean about engine being basically same as XK8 & 1 or 2 styling issues.
p.s. thanks for reply to my post-perhaps S type will be poor man's poor substitute for XK !!

i thought that the noise was a bit excessive and sounded a bit like an old 60's yank musclecar... hardly befitting a jaguar...
other than that i did like the look of the car, and having seen a coupe in the flesh the other week i think it looks better than the convertible.

I reckon, with regards to the noise, you really need to listen to one in the flesh. It's completely different, just ask Pwig

As a Jag fan, I like the XK but don't love it. Would buy one, but it would have to be the XKR which I think will be fab, but only after it has lost 50% of its list price in a couple of years

I think it is too expensive, for the quality of the materials used. I hadn't thought of it as Clarkey put it last week, in that it is a car designed and made on a tight budget, with no real leap in terms of styling or new engine as the car should have a more modern engine................

So those who work in the Jag dealer network, how well are they selling, and what is the GMFV of the new XK in 3 years time??

Hi mate,

Coupes are on an 18 month waiting list
Convertibles are about 11 months
XKR waiting list depends on allocation (not been announced yet, though I suspect it'll be 2 cars at most per month.

Re XK GMFVs
3 years & 10k per annum:

Bank of Scotland
Coupe: £27,869.00 = 47%
Cab: £30,601.00 = 47%

Jigsaw (Hitachi)
Coupe: £31,236.00 = 64%
Cab: £34,233.00 = 53%

Jag Financial Services RV's are just crap and not even worth comparing frankly. As you can see though, it does vary quite a bit!

Thanx Phil,

I would have thought the Conv would have a longer wait than the Coupe?

Have to see what happens when they start the night shift, with regards to wait times.

Yep, it's an odd one isn't it. Originally though Jaguar were going to give us a lot less convertibles than coupes, e.g. we get about 4 cars per month, 1 of which was going to be a cab. However, for whatever reason there was a 50/50 split. I heard from our RM the other day that Jaguar will be scaling back cab production back to how it originally should've been.

Jaguar said they were making about 1800 XK's this year for the UK market, that equates to about 18 per dealer, we've got an allocation over twice that for this first year. Having said that, I know a lot of dealers who are getting one per month. I think it's got a lot to do with how big your order bank is, we've taken one of the largest amount of orders for the car to date.

I seriousley hope Jaguar don't start over supplying the car as that will inevitably lead to discounting and then shit residual values. The car is good enough to command list price, might aswell make hay (so to speak).

I don't think they have the choice, with the Ford group being in such dire straights. I had a dinner with Jags MD, Bibi a few months back and she said production will be limitied to 15,000 units/year. I don't know what Castle Bromwich's output is currently.

Trouble is the prices of these cars will fall, it is enevitable in the UK car market, I expect in a couple of years for them to fall as fast as the outgoing model, which is a shame as I think Jags a fantastic.

Much nicer looking in the flesh (esp rear three quarters ), but front snout not quite right , and will probably date quicker than my Series 1 model did
I like the interior (even at 6'5" I had loads of room ) and new sound, and love the E-type hatch style.
Dislike after-thought aerial
But the main problem is that I think it is over priced by £5-8k in current market...too much choice at £60k now...

... if I had £60k
