Jag for Occasional Track day use
Discussion
Hi All,
I've also posted in the Trackday section, I am looking at current model XJR as a good compormise between performance and long distance cruising ability. I drove one the other day and loved the power, I'd never really considered one before that. Apart from the obvious tyres and brakes wearing out, does anyone know of any performance issues I might get on the track, or during high speed cruising across Europe? I seem to remember Top Gear or 5th Gear testing one an a track and experiencing some sort of performance restriction.............if anyone can remember.
Anyone ever tried there Jag on the track?
Cheers

There was the Top Gear with the S-Type Diesel out in Germany where Jeremy ragged it till the gearbox got fed up of him and switched into "limp home" mode... can't remember any other ones (but I've missed my fair share of episodes). The only restriction I can think of is the speed restrictor.
Sounds like a great idea for a toy; personally I'd look at getting the suspension a bit more "track focussed" if you were going to do that (actually, I'd just get an XK, funnily enough, but that's me!)

I've got an XJR (previous shape 4.0 V8 Supercharged) at the moment and am considering doing a trackday in it as I won't get my Caterham until after June. Having pressed on during road driving I would say that it would be great fun on the track and as you say it will be tyres and brakes that will get hurt the most.
The only thing that goes against the Jag for track work is it's sheer size and weight but that wouldn't stop me!

After playing with a couple of motorbikes for around ten minutes down a series of dual carriageways and roundabouts I was getting major issues with brake fade!!
The XJR takes a hell of a lot of stopping, so a brake upgrade would be essential IMO
BTW - bet the bloke on the GSXR600 was a tad stunned when i took 50 yards off him at a set of traffic lights

Tell me asbout it, I actually hurt my neck the other day as I gunned away from a set of lights! The traction control light flickered for a bit and then whoa it just gripped and went................................
Great fun though!
