can i ask can you buy a jaguar warranty for a used car you buy. As before looking for xk8 was orginally after a tip boxster and i know you could buy a warranty from them providing car had fsh passed an inspection and paid £725. Do jag offer the same but at what cost, the porsche one seemed good value for pece of mind.

Yes, as you said, providing it's got a full service history. It *may* need an inspection, or it may not. It will cost you between £1,200 and £1,600 though.

Sad but true. Nine year old XJR worth say £6000, Jaguar warranty £1200. Three year old Porsche 911 (996) Turbo, worth say £65,000, Porsche warranty £725.

How does that work then?

Three things you can do...

a) Buy a Jaguar warranty. As mentioned, it may need inspecting first. Likely to have great service (I'd hope!), but it is quite expensive

b) Buy a third party warranty. I just did a quick quote online which came up with £1000 for 3 years cover. Bit less likely to pay out than Jaguar, and always a bit more hassle to deal with. But still, a few phone calls are potentially worth saving £2500 over!

c) Get an AA warranty added on to AA breakdown cover. It costs about £50 or so, and covers you for up to £500 per claim if your car breaks down and they can't fix it by the roadside. Absolute bargain, pays a substantial chunk of most bills short of new engines/gearboxes, and I've only ever heard good things about it paying out when needed.

For what it's worth, I've gone for option (c).

Is that an XK for sale I see...

Not necessarily in my experience...

Agreed. Think I should probably have emboldened the "potentially". Very much depends on how good your local garage is at dealing with the warranty company, the warranty you choose, and pot luck. I had one warranty that paid up on a new clutch, electrics, etc. over the course of ownership to the tune of £2,000 plus - easily making it worthwhile. I had another I just about broke even on. And there are plenty of stories around of stone-blood-extraction nightmares. That's why I plumped for the AA one this time round.

Available up to 120,000 miles, age - not sure.
Yes, from my experience its a good warranty.
(Had a brand new XJ delivered and used it for 2 months when my ps pump went)

If you want to see a nightmare warranty, have a look over at the BMW forum.

It's readily available on www.jaguar.co.uk if you'd look.
