How accurate is this blow test, to indicate whether a engine has damage or not. Can any thing be done to show a false reading. As looking for a xk8 convertible but budget is for a 99 or earlier, obvously concerns with engine and time chain tensioners, approx what percentage of models actually fail with regards to this. take it jaguar no longer offer assistance to early models of xk8.

i am wondering if buying a car of the year and model being too much stress and heartache.

Pity i can not afford the later models after 2000

A fair few around with replacement engines - search them out.

By blow test I assume you mean compression test. Yes the results can usually be made higher/better if a small amount of engine oil is dripped in the spark plug holes before the test.

That's one way you can tell if there is a problem, if a cylinder or more get a low compression reading and you add some oil and the compression raises it tells you the rings are not sealing properly due to worn rings or cylinder walls.

Yeh i suppose i mean the compression test.

On the other subject what do you use to determine the value of these cars looked at parkers guide, but prices seem to be all over the place, privately some xkr models similar to the standard xk8

I missed out on a XKR Convertible 1999. The guy had it advertised for 17,500 he wanted to sell it quickly for more that what dealer offered him of £16,000 on his new one. Unfortunately it was over 200 miles away and some one bought it locally.

That car only had 45kmiles fsh 1 owner.

What guide do you use as a sensible price to go off.

I'm looking at a 99T 43k mile XKR cab tomorrow, I think 19k buys it +£360 for a year warranty (3rd party), does that sound about right ?

i know i missed out on a 99 T xkr for 17,500 with XKR number plate. The guy was just after a little more than dealer who offered him 16k without plate. Same mileage fsh etc 1 owner.

I think souds ok as that one seemed very fairley priced. Is it a private or dealer sale
