Been a long time Jag fan since a kid in the sixties and having two Uncles that had a Mk.X and a Mk.II.

However, I've been a Saab turbo driver in various forms for the past 15 years or so, but have got very disolusioned with Saab's products since the GM take-over. Saab-GB's previously excellent customer service dept. being moved into Vauxhall's Luton HQ has been almost the last straw with it's subsequent Vaxuhall style customer service.

Anyway, I've started to seriously consider changing manufacturer in the near future, and a Jag S-Type 2.7 diesel is something that I'm considering.

I've been very lucky over all these years to have had a very good Saab dealer, so it is with trepidation that I'm considering changing manufacturers and so dealership. Does anyone have good reports of any Jag dealers in the West or NW London/Bucks/Herts area, as well as pros and cons of the 2.7 diesel S-type..???

Ta muchy....

The engine is a gem, auto and manual have well matched gear ratios, you really need to test drive one.

You do need to consider how often people will use the rear seats for long journeys, if the front occupants are tall the rear legroom may become an issue.

Hi aeropilot, I can understand your frustrations with Saab, another unique car manufacturer gone to the wall I fear.

I live in Herts and used R A Creamers of Kensington, can't recommend them highly enough.
Sounds an odd location, but they really are the best IMHO.

Not an issue for me really, as carrying anyone in the rear would be such an infrequent occurance. In fact, I don't really need a 4-door car the size of an S-Type, my ideal would be the new XK Coupe fitted with a tweaked version of the 2.7TTDi giving about 500Nm or more of torque......

That would be some machine

The S-TYPE Diesel really is an absolutely cracking car! In terms of refinement, noise levels etc it really is second to none currently. Personally i'd go for a loaded 2.7D Sport Auto with toys, though the SE is more popular.

As someone said above, you really need to drive one to experiance it, though you won't be dissapointed

As for dealers, you could say i'm biased (working for Royles oop north ) but i've heard good things about Creamers too, one of the few independants left - always nice to deal with a family run company.

Had my 2.7 diesel sport now for 8 months and apart from gearbox fault (ZF problem not jag) which was dealt with by Jaguar the car has been super. I have owned five Saabs including Griffin(posh aero) which covered 185000.00 miles. The Jag is in the same league as the Saab for driving pleasure but better for passengers. The sport is the one to go for if you are used to Aero. The handling is superb and well balanced. I always said that I always wanted to drive Saab and the Jag is same. I do not no why people buy BMW and Mercs when Jag sell such good cars not just euroboxes Also no other Diesel can match 2.7 for performance soothness and sound. Most passengers will not believe it is a diesel.

My Father-in-law has a the S-type diesel and I must say its an excellent engine/box package. Only pulling away from stationary would you ever really know its an oil burner. His is an auto and it is very sprightly indeed. Fuel economy is obviously good but not great - 25-28mpg all round I would estimate.

Lovely car. Thinking of getting one myself when my old Bimmer V8 dies

I have had mine now for 6 months and 12000 miles, In manual form there is almost no lag on take off, fuel economy over 12000 miles is currently 41.3 MPG, it can go as low as 35-36 round town but even driven with great gusto I cant see figures in the low 30's, It has to be one of if not the finest diesel cars available. The only exception being the excentric behaviour on warm up in sub zero temperatures

The PTC heater spewing 'smoke' all over the shop? Jaguar have recognised that as a problem (at last!), and are developing a fix!

Thats good, it can play havoc with your street cred and causes panic in other road users.

One of our customers actually got pulled over by the police as they thought his engine was on fire! I've had it happen on me actually and the A/C sucked some of it into the cabin. Kind of disconcerting really :S

Just a quick note, The item you are talking about is not a PTC heater it is a Fuel burning heater (FBH). Hence the smoke from its exhaust when it starts up. It uses a glow plug as per the engine to ignite the diesel thus warming the coolant for the heater as it is pumped through it.
The system operates on an ambinet based map so only comes on when needed.

Had 2.7 diesels as courtesy cars while my 4.0 V8 in for service. The usable torque is about the same on both engines (cf the tech data) and I have found little difference in performance between the two cars in normal everyday driving. I'm having the diesel next time round.
