Hi searching for a xk8 convertible.

looking for a private sale, but little about.

A good few for sale with dealers and at same prices to private but reluctant to go with a dealer.

Have the price of used XK8 convertible dropped is it with the new one, if so are the private sellers un aware of the value of their cars.

If the dealer prices are the same as the private prices, why wouldn't you buy from a dealer?

*sigh*

We're not all cobbing runts mate. If a customer tells me quite clearly "I already have my finances sorted", I'll take the point and just sell them a car for straight cash.

If you've had bad experiances in the past, just don't use that dealer again. Please don't tarnish us all with the same brush though.

Phil.

yeh know you should not tarnish them all with same brush, but past experience has. was hoping to find a car off owner that has shown true car and attention, and that they know it will be going to a good home.Crazy i know you are thinking its only a car

I was thinking that if you joined the club and let it be known that you are looking for an 8 on their forum I am sure you will get quite a bit of help, they are a friendly bunch and will give you plenty of advice.

There are 72 sub 18k XK8 Convertables for sale on autotrader, how many do you need?

Well, I'm just about to put my "ever so slightly modified" Paramount XKR in the ads in the next few days if that's any use. (OK, so it's a coupe and a bit more than £17k, but it is an amazing car - far and away the best I've ever owned)

Decent pic of it: www.jsgreenwood.com/jag.jpg

change the distance setting from a 40 mile radius to a national search to find more.

why exclude dealers, just look at all and see where the best value is

you are just as likely to be tucked up on a privately bought car, with the issue of no recourse unlike the dealer route

I'd definitely do a national search... for something as big as a car purchase - i.e. something you're going to own for a year or more, a Saturday afternoon or two of viewing a car & picking it up's nothing for finding the right one and potentially saving £1/2k.

Personally, I'd also look at "how good a deal" a car is rather than have a fixed price... if something's £4k more, but it's priced, say £2k below what it "should be" comparatively, then financing the extra £4k at 5% PA is nothing over a couple of years (£400 interest in two years) as long as you sell it for a differential of more than that. Guess that's down to how comfortable you are with finance, etc (I'm not a fan myself, but I'm coming round to the idea of how it can actually make you money!)

I'd also consider private, indy, and main dealer sales. I've never yet ended up at a main dealer because of the premiums, but I can see how that could be different at the moment if you've got people part-exing existing XKs at knock-down prices on new ones (which are only really available from dealers). The way I see it you get both honest and dishonest sellers whether it's private, indy, or main dealer - finding someone who's historically had a good reputation is about the best (if not "all" ) you can do.

Would prefer to go private mode rather than dealer. But would like to get an inspection on one.

Missed out on a great one as away, guy buying new car he was offered 16k for his XKR 99 convertible only 34miles, owner desparate as he did not want to be a 2 owner car, tried selling it privately but i think it was a bad time with easter hols. good knows what jag main dealer will be selling car on for.

Can i ask are there any colours to avoid in Jags which would make resale harder.

Seen a car with 77k miles but is had not had time chain tensioners on, thought they had to be done every 50k mile.

British racing green and any flat paint. Oh, Jaguar also put a half cloth/half leather interior into XK's for a while. That was hideous!

re: main dealer premiums;

Average prep bill on a 98 XK8:

Warranty: £1200
PDA: £300
Service: £300
MOT: £40
Other rectification work: £1500

It's fairly easy to see how a £4000 margin gets swallowed up.

Atleast you know you're getting a car that's been completely sorted out though.

I bought a 98 XK8 last april. paid 19000 for it. 37000 miles. FJSH. immaculate, from a small dealer just south of Norfolk. found it on Auto trader and travelled from Teesside in the North East for it. Looking at your posts I get the impression that you are restricting yourself somewhat. You should have no problems sourcing an XK for 17000.

As for running costs, to be honest they have been very reasonable. and the dealers are great. Good hunting

i think you are full of hot air - there are plenty of xk8 cabs available go buy one

as above there are loads on autotrader, a few on ebay, a load of sub 25k cars on the jaguar web site and if you buy a copy of Topmarques it will have adverts from 5-10 of the main non franchise jaguar specialists - all of who will have 2-3 cars..such as Bovingdon, Kew etc

its pretty simple really pick if you want xk8 or xkr, your preference in terms of colours for exterior and interior and whether you prefer age to mileage and set a budget - then shortlist the cars and buy the best one.
