Servicing an X300 - what's done at each service?
Discussion
Thinking of changing my Chimaera for an XJ6 (X300) or XJ8 towards the end of the summer (bad time to sell a convertible I know, but want 1 decent summer out of it before it goes) so I'm looking for some info. I've read with interest all the posts on the Nikasil issues, tensioner & water pump problems etc and think I'm veering towards a six, hopefully a 4.0 (but not an XJR).
Can someone tell me briefly what is involved at each service interval ie: what is done at the basic 10k service, what at 20k etc, and what the 'big ones' are, ie are they every 40k or 60k and what's involved?
I want to get some idea of possible running costs at approx 5k miles pa (less than a Chimaera presumably).
A copy of the service schedules would be perfect, if they were available somehow.
Thanks everyone

Have 96 4.0 litre with 85000 miles on and have maintained mostly myself and would recommend straight six to anyone. Service items are oil and filter 10,000 miles. I use Jag oil filter and10-50 oil. Don"t use fully synthetic cos got an oil leak after using(to thin) so therefore use semi syn. Transmission fluid every 30,000. Brake fluid 2 years. Air cleaner 20,000. fuel filter 60000. Spark plugs 20000. Adjust belts 30000. Renew belts 60000. Grease axle uj 10000. Front bearings check and reset 30000 miles. Strip at 60000. I used Halfords long life antifreeze (five years) to be replaced this year and no problems. Source parts from JEC magazine other than oil filter which is always jag. Have owned car for 8 years and hope to be buried in it. Worth very little now but still a superb car to ride in and drive.
