Could anyone give me as much info as they feel relevant about these cars please. What to look for as they are coming upto 4 years old, servicing costs, are they likely to hold their money any better than a "normal" XJR. Am I too young at 41, and what are they like to drive from a womans perspective, wife with 2 kids would be using it weekdays. I drove an XJR V8 in 2001 but at the time I wasn't overly impressed with the brakes (sorted in the XJR100?)and it was a bit squidgy, maybe no Cats? and eventually bought an HSV GTS-R. We currently have a Noble and a Voyager, the idea being to sell both and replace them with an XJR/S8 and a Griff/Kit or whatever.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Not a particular expert on the 100, but I'll have a go....
I think I'm right in saying that they are all black, with black leather with red stitching, Brembo brakes and special alloys.
You are right about the brakes, a standard XJR is woefully lacking in the brakes department, to a frightening degree IMHO. But, the 100 has the Brembo upgrade so should be much better.
In respect of price, yes they should do much better than a standard XJR, 1998 models now down to £6-7K !!!
As for driving as a woman, my wife was pleasantly surprised at how easy the XJR was to drive, and a little underwhelmed by the performance, until I asked her to try 'kick-down' in sport mode CATS is a strange animal, only starts working when you start to 'lean on it', I prefer a good manual spring and damper set-up personally. I didn't find the ride quality very good in the XJR, a lot of 'flexing' on difficult surfaces, I think its a sign of its age. Also, although very light to drive it is a big heavy car. However, more than happy to accept that compromise for the looks alone
Servicing is very, very reasonable, Jaguar warranty is a must at around £1000. They eat tyres. Look out for NIKASIL and timming chain tensioners (search else where) however, pretty sure they were both sorted by the time the 100 came along.
I'm very tempted to find a good XJR 100, and keep it for long term, they are a consumate classic in the making.
Here's one on our very own website: www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/65440.htm
A great choice, go for it and enjoy, plus every one will know you are a yummy mummy with great taste

800, thanks for the reply, various searches do seem to suggest that the Nikasil issue was solved by about 2000/ 2001. By the way I'm not the "yummy mummy" I'm the ugly husband! As for the XJR100 in the classifieds it's not far off early new shape XJR money, albeit they would have higher miles.
The 100 in the classifieds is priced a little “optimistically”!, but the car is mint and I know for a fact it was put in high. It has had one owner from new and was in dealer storage for 2 years so essentially it has only been on the road two years. If you made the guy a serious offer maybe 26.5ish I reckon he would accept. How do I know this? It’s my 100 That’s how!
TBM, I'm sure your car is lovely, but Meridien in Lyndhurst sold one on Sunday (2002,1 owner,22000miles etc) for quote "somewhere under £22000", the forecourt price was £21995. With respect I think yours therefore may be more than a bit high. Good luck with the sale and thanks for the replies from yourself and 800, any more info gratefully received!
