S Type R Newcomer Questions
Discussion
Afternoon all
Currently thinking of swapping my 1999 BMW M5 for a 2004 S Type R
A few questions for you....
I've driven the S Type R and was very impressed - has anyone else lived with these 2 cars for any length of time and can compare the two?
Are there any big known faults with the S Type R?
I do 25-30k/Year - any high mileage S Type Rs out there?
As I understand it's possible to renew the manufacturer warranty for 3 years after it runs out - 6 years in total, unlimited mileage....is there any problems with certain things not being covered as the mileage creeps up?
Thanks
Guy

Both are great cars, and interesting move sideways.
Jaguar extended warranies are a must on any R (IMHO). Jaguar will renew up to 120,000 miles, cost £800-1000, I believe. Its a good warranty though and servicing is very reasonable for a 400bhp car.
Also, the warranty has none of the disgusting issues that are part of BMW's warranties as of Feb 06.

Not sure of any major issues with the car. As for Jag warranties, they have just changed the wording in the policy so that they no longer will cover you for 'known defects'. But as I said apart from a lurchy gearbox on the older models I don't think there is anything to ruin the experience.
Go for it!
