Is the cats suspension a worthwhile extra to be looking for when purchasing a secondhand XK8?

No, if you wanted it to go fast you would be buying an R , they all have CATS. The CATS system reacts to your driving making the suspension firmer when pushing on. CATS is electronic so it is another part to go wrong so from an economic point of view standard suspension will be less complex, less expensive and differs little from the CATS set up under most conditions. I would not make CATS a buying decision.

Agree with the above.

Making sure there is an R badge on the back should be the main buying decision!
