Couple of questions for the panel.....

Does the sport button have any other effect than to raise the change up point through the gears?
Any ideas why the dampers have an electical connection on the top?

Cheers

I've got nothing definate Simon but yes, the gear change point is higher but the engine response to the throttle is also quicker. I've "teased" the XJ8 (standard 4ltr) on corners and the response for such a monster is good with the "sports" mode engaged but in "maybe tommorrow" mode without

Using the "manual" side of the gate can teach you a lot, it's deffo quicker in "S" and "manual".

I think it depends on WHAT you "expect".......

It's a 2 ton saloon car....not a sports car,......It's quick yes, but IF you want a sports car....then buy one.

Having said that, I wouldn't change it.......well, maybe for an XJR .....

Ah Sorry!...forgot about the damper sw....MMmmh Don't know........but they ALL do have the CATS adaptable suspension and I suspect that this also changes with the "S" switch.

Certainly feels like it anyway......(maybe it's a pressure sensor?)

Jags with CATS suspension is independant from the 'Sports' Mode. It is inertia based. The Sports button just changes settings in the gearbox and throttle.

Interesting so does this mean my XJR has 'CATS' suspension - how does that work?

I would think so, easiest way to find out is open the bonnet and look to see if there are wires coming out the top of the shocks. If there are you have CATS. I'm no technical expert, so in laymans terms, the CATS firm up under load thereby preventing too much bonnet dip under braking or acceleration and when going around corners stops too much bodyroll by firming up the suspension on the outside two wheels.

You cannot switch it on or off, it just does it. Having said that it normally takes a corner or so to activate, so careful when racing that S500 initially!!!!

The 'sports' button is directly wired into your right foot every time you get in the car. So without it activated, you will just cruise around on half throttle, but as soon as you press that button your right foot remains firmly planted to the floor...

Now tell me that scenario is not true.

Hi Groomi

This seems to be correct, I always leeve the 'Sports buttom' on and have found my right foot is ALWAYS firmly planted to the floor.

The only way I have found to slow the car down is to use the left foot to brake.

PS Will I see you at the 'R' watering hole on Sunday?

Sports mode also puts the car into 1st when slowing down towards traffic lights, in normal it sits in second, that's why when booting it away from the lights in sports mode the car seems lighter and gets away quicker.

Ah, sloppy admin this end I'm afraid. It'll be another no show from me this weekend due to work commitments, BUT, the beast will be returning next week after a four month spell in rehabilitation - time to have some fun!

PS: Have a good one, I'll see you at the next one.

PPS: Any of you going to Virginia Waters on the 5th? If so, keep that Wokkerdriver away from me
