Should I buy a 3.0 V6 S-Type? Advise Please

Hi folks,
I have been looking at the S-Type and on paper it looks great valve for money.Think about going for a 2000/1 model year S-Type 3.0 V6.I need to persade the wife it would be better than a Nissan Patrol If anyone runs one please could you advise me on "fuel economy" "what weakeness to look out for" and any other general info that it of use.Also what do you think of them as an every day driver and for long distances?

Don't know too much about S-Types, other than the later the car the better it is. I think the 2001/2001 makeover produced a fab car. The V8 4.2ltr Type-R does about 28mpg, so a V6 would be at a guess low 30's.
It is a great car, watch out for a lurch in the gearbox. Far better than a Nissan Patrol!

PS Don't mess about get the S Type R!

I have had a 99 4.0 litre for two years. Very reliable and very quick, drives as a proper Jag should. Downside is plenty of evidence of Ford pennypinching in the interior. The glovebox lid is particularly nasty, Transit quality. The "series 2" version which came out in 2002 may be a little better in this department but I haven't had a really close look at one. As a secondhand buy the're fantastic value though.
