Jag XJ - daily driver??
Discussion
I've run my XJ6 (X300) for 9 1/2 years as my main car.
I travel a lot so it doesn't get used every day, but it's my main car.
I didn't plan to run it this long but I can't find anything I'd rather have that seats 4, except another XJ so I've never felt it worth changing.
It's run faultlessly, the only thing outside normal servicing it's ever needed was suspension bushes needed replacing about 3 years ago.
I've got friends who run them too, and seem very happy.
I've never had a problem with the fuel economy, you've been there before so know what to except. Used for short journeys I only tend to get about 18MPG, but the misses used to have a 1.8 VW Passat and on similar jouneys that only did 22MPG, so I'm more than happy with the Jags figure.
I'd go for it if I were you
Cheers

Hi,I run an early (1993)XJ40 DD6 all through the winter months and leave the Tiv in the garage. It gets to do around 10k miles, service costs are sensible at around £400 a year and Lancaster do cheap classic car insurance at around £200 a year up to 10k miles including to and from work.
As good early XJ's can be bought for very little these days, I see it as great value for money and such comfort !!!
Cheers

I bought an early 1990 Daimler XJ40 4 litre in 95 and ran in until the beginning of this year as my main transport - it proved reliable and cheap to run - I'd recommend an XJ as a daily driver to anyone who is not obsessed with fuel consumption. The 12 cylinder X300s look like considerable bargins at the moment - if I had the space I'd get one - I miss having a Jag
I had a 1990 4.0 Soveriegn as a daily driver for four years. Covered approximately 12,000miles per year. It was utterly reliable, but cost a fortune in servicing to keep it in the condition I wanted.
If you don't mind a bit of rust here and there and the odd electrical gremlin, then an old XJ can be run quite cheaply - don't skimp on the mechanical servicing though.
