Just after peoples advice really. I have an S type 3.0 V6 circa 2000.

Has anyone out there had problems with the front anti roll bar bushes before ? I had mine replaced about 3 monts ago due to an irritating rattling and clanking noise when going over slightly bumpy surfaces.

Anyways 3 months later the exact same thing has returned. The car is going back into the dealers this week but just curious if this has happened to anyone else ?

Also has anyone had problems with a droaning noise from the back end of the car when doing about 40 - 60mph ? I first thought it might be the Diff, but I understand that the rear bearings are prone to going at 40,000 miles?

Any help much appreciatedb

Hi fellow sufferer........

I too have a 2000 3 ltr S type and I replaced my worn out front antiroll bar bushes myself, they cost over £45 plus vat each......for just two really cheap rubber bushes, absolute rip off..

Three months later the same problem occurred ( and I was not a happy bunny) and Jag replaced them foc under the parts warranty and they even fitted them for me whilst I waited.

Complain and they should replace them ! I actually think that there are a load of duff roll bar bushes in the Jag parts bin.

Cheers,

Tony

PS not got any droning ( at 64,000) but anyone else had their coolant expansion tank leak and lose water....seems to be a common problem on S types of a certain vintage.

What you need are the bushes introduced in 2001 that have the same grease as they use on XJs.

The late grease is waterproof and provides superior lubrication for the bushing.

Thanks for replying.

My radiator expansion tank was replaced 3 monts ago under warranty. After talking to the Service manager at Reg Vardy Jaguar he says its a common occurance on them.

And another weak point on S types is the wheel bearing, in particular the Near side rear, he said that water gets in and they degrade about 40,000mls. Mines just been replaced for £145. Wonderfull design by the sounds of it.

I've replaced both the front wheel bearings in mine ( the ABS sensor behind the bearing allowed water ingress) but a new design stopped the problem in later cars.

There's a persistent leak in the air conditioning system so that has also stopped working.

So to sum up after 64,000 miles in 5 years in addition to the normal Jaguar servicing which is an unholy rip off eg shell multigrade bought at £1 per litre resold at £15.00 per litre, I've needed the front anti-roll bar bushes replacing twice, one rear anti-roll tie bar replacing, an expansion tank, two new front wheel bearings, the AC has stopped working and will probably need more than a simple regassing which it had last year, and I replaced a set of spark plugs 10,000 miles early.

Not really too bad considering I dont half thrash the poor thing to death sometimes, like loading it up with 40 cases of French supermarket booze four times a year........

The engine is starting to sound a mite tappity now so will probably get rid in the new year..........might look for a cheap V8 as I like the car and it does handle well, far better than my 5 series which preceeded it...

Cheers,

Tony

I have 2001 MY S-Type 3.0 Sport, and on the 70,000 Mile Service had to have rear offside wheel bearing, anti roll bar bushes and also a front suspension ball joint done plus the service (ouch)..

Other than that it has been very reliable, the engine has never been the smoothest V6 but is pretty powerful for a 3 Litre..

The car has recently also had a new battery and the last few days feels a bit funny
Normally when you take your foot off the accelerator the car used to drop speed quite slowly now it seems to drop speed much quicker and also when creeping in drive it seems to creep with less gusto than it did. A bit weird and hard to put my finger on, the brakes are not binding and the car rolls in neutral fine and also idles fine..HA Fox told me that the battery change would not have reset the ecu of the engine or gearbox any ideas?

They are taking a look at it on Thursday..

Disconnect the battery and the adapt values will be lost from all modules, some take longer than others and it varies from car to car, nevertheless a battery change can do it.

It's the most likely explanation for what has happened to your car, but the dealer may tell you something different.

I thought I heard a slight tramping noise from the front, but my local garage put it on the lift and couldn't find anything.

Seems my Jag is self-healing!

Hi Gavin

Thanks for this, will the problem sort itself out over time? I assume the car will take some time to adapt again in terms of the ecu will it?

Regards
