Stereo fitting problem, XJ40

XJ40's going great.....I'm trying to put in a new cd player except the supplied wiring harness does not tally with the cars. Any ideas? I've tried an adapter lead which also doesn't fit. I could 'bodge' it if I knew what each of the wires from the car represented. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Take it to Halfords?!

Have you got a wiring diagram for the XJ40?

No. Zero literature. I spoke to someone today who believes this model may have an amplified system which makes it complicated!

I've got a couple of workshop manuals for the XJ40, I'll have a look and see if the stereo etc wiring is in there - can you read wiring diagrams as per manuals? - they're a bit beyond me! If it looks like a diagrams might be useful I'll let you know. Busy this week so might be in a few days.
