Hi all i know that a lot of you will say its not worth it but does any one know what i need to do to drop an engine and box from an xkr/xjr into an xk8 or how i can get more grunt out of the 4.0 V8 in the xk8.

First remove and hold the xk8 petrol cap
drive an xkr enderneath it

Sorry to be flippant, but that's about all they have in common.

I thought i would just add a bit more to this i recon that the xk is probably worth around 18k an newer r is going to cost me around another 20k for basicaly the same car but with more grunt i have allready got the 355mm R Brembos and R suspention all round, handling is excelent so it is only the power and gear box that lets the car down. I know every one i ask just says buy an r but i would like to know what is the differece in respect to what would have to be changed to fit the R engine and box eg do i need to change the full rear end is the front subframe the same what about wiring loom things like fuel tank etc basicaly just what will and wont fit in the shell.

Your biggest problem, apparently, would be with the electrical control systems. Each module is specific to each type of car. For example, believe it or not, XKR convertibles have different modules to Coupes.

I enquired about transplanting a 4.2 engine with 6 speed box into mine. It is just too difficult.

So, unfortunately, if power is neecded sell the 8 and buy an R
