No reverse= £2K?
Discussion
Help please!
My colleague has a 1997 XK8 (50K miles) which has ‘lost’ reverse gear. The shift engages but there is no movement, the engine just revs. No problem with any forward gears.
A Jaguar specialist has told him that the low speed and reverse clutch is the problem requiring a gearbox overhaul at a cost £2,000.
Firstly can anyone tell me if this is a common problem with the XK. Secondly is a gearbox overhaul really necessary and thirdly should it cost £2,000.
Thanks
Patrick

Is this an auto box? - if so I'd advise going to an auto box specialist rather than a Jag specialist.
I went to an auto box man when my wifes Saab auto box went on the blink (at 196,000 miles I hasten to add) - the rebuild was £1500 CHEAPER than I was quoted by a Saab specialist, and the work was guaranteed with all new parts.
