I was at Castle Bromwich today and saw (and heard) some of the new X150's (new XK) in the flesh for the first time.

To me they looked much more cohesive than in pictures I've seen in the press. Far from being a DB9 redesigned by Mr McCallum with some tracing paper it truly is a gorgeous coupe in its own right. It looks like an XK that's been with a sadistic personal trainer. The front bumper area reminds me of some of the Paramount Performance XK's that I've seen (which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on your views). Overall it looks far more modern than the "old" looking outgoing model which I'm afraid to say never did it for me.

There were a fleet of soft and hard tops lined up (presumably ready for the press to test at some far flung location?) plus one or two soft tops driving up and down the complex.

Roof down they make a lot more sense the slightly 80's looking XK which to me always looked as if the convertible version was an afterthought and not terribly well executed (all IMHO of course). The noise has a much harder edge, even at low revs.

This deserves to sell extremely well and should steal several people away from their 645i's and might even pry the odd 911 customer looking for more of a GT.

Great to hear. I too run hot and cold over the new XK. Cold when I see it in the pics and hot when I see it in the flesh. It is also interesting that those who like the current run out model, don't like the new one and those who don't like the old one, love the new car. Guess old farts don't like progress!

I would love to own one, but I think the new XKR will be just too expensive for me. i.e. £70k.

Funnily enough, it was me (I ?) who designed the Paramount Performance XK Front Lower Fairing.
I've never been so insulted !! That was a much better looking front than the new XK (IMHO)!!!
If you, like me, are not a fam of the new XK front, would you buy one if Racing Green Cars were to produce an alternative one piece nose cone ?
I guess maybe 10 yesses to chasw@racinggreencars.com and we'll get on with it !
