Hello peeps,

well this is all new to me , i just like to introduce meself , the name's bond ...nah only joking , the name's Barry , I am a future jag owner after being a beemer driver for donkeys years now .
I feel that at the age of 42 I need s/thing that will say class and exclusivity so therefore I wont settle for anything else than an XKR 4.2 S. I made up my mind and that's it (he says quaking !), so it's either remortgage the house or wait 18 months and buy one off a dealer or Blackbush prestige car auctions.
I test drove one today at the Plymouth Stratstone dealership today in slate grey with ivory recaros and i was dribbling like a kid in a sweet shop.okay the vrear legroom aint as generous as my e24 six series beemer but what the heck! and the one i saw and test drove was a 52 grander , maybe in 18 months it would be a lot less i guess , the sepang 20" alloys are to die for.
anyway let me know if Iam mad , or you could just say hello!
Cheers lads ,
later
Barry

Hi Barry. I've 'only' got an S-Type 4.2 V8 but I can wholeheatedly recommend Jag ownership. the plan had been to get another Range Rover next but having had the Jag for a few months I've decided it's got be an XJR next - or at least something with an 'R' in its name. Go for it you won't regret it!

thank you all for your warm reply ;-)
admittedly the jag has that je ne sais quoi about it , at least it aint driven by boy racers ( no pun intended) , and i feel i need to act my age now ha!
the XKR looks like it might knock the socks off an m3 off the traffic light but we shall see hey.
I look forward to becoming a member of the jag community here , just gimme 1 year to 18 months coz I set my heart on a 2004/05 XKR 4.2.
regards

Been there, bought it and loving it! Get it now Barry, lifes too short.

Here's my 4.2S XKR

If you want the must have list for any XK then here goes.

1) Get the XKR!
2) Brembo Brakes.
3) Recaro seats.
4) Satnav.
5)Aluminium Pack.
6) 'R' Perf Pack (lowered suspension, retune CATS/Steering)
7) Colour - You're call but you will know the colour the car suits.

Let us know how you get on.

thank you triple7,
the one i test drove was slate grey or quartz can't remember! ivory recaros and alpine sound system +aluminium pack and best of all (sorry triple7) sepang alloys !! they rock! question of personal taste hey.
The only thing i noticed whilst doing 85/ 90 mph is that there is no engine noise whatsoever except for the 20" rubbers . i would've preferred the grunt i get from my straight six blowing through a freeflow stainless steel exhaust on my 6 series.
i am in the middle of a remortgage at the mo (yes am an interest rate tart !, or APR tart whatever way u look at it), but i need to sell some serious pizzas to add to the savings i already got , and being the patient geezer i am , combined with the arrival of the new xk8 , maybe i'll snatch the model am after, in a year's time , for a lot less than the current price and best of all it'll be a cash buy.
BTW the rep didnt know whether the supercharger itself is belt or chain driven? any thoughts on that?
any minors probs you had with your 4.2s triple7?
do the wipers cope well at high speed?
are the headlights bright night time?
is the xkr tail happy in the wet?
appreciate all your inputs regarding the above.
again thank you all and this forum rocks!
regards

BARRY
PS: Here are some pics i took myself of the car i tested with the kind permission of Stratsone of Plymouth dealership

The Supercharger is belt driven.
Over at www.xkec.co.uk the discussion re wheel choice comes down to car colour and personal choice. Missing from thev list is an exhaust mod, essential for that V8 noise

Very nice car Barry, that is the sort to go for. All the kit, as for the sepangs, well mine had them on first (click on my forum name for a pic) but the XKR-S, has Perseus not Sepangs. Also after 2 weeks of ownership you'll get fed up with cleaning them, very fiddly!

The s/c is belt driven, I wouldn't believe another word the salesman said after he couldn't have answered that one! Sure it wasn't the cleaner doing a bit of over time?

Get an exhaust upgrade from Racing green cars. See here: www.xkr1.com/xkec/exhaust_demo/

No probs at all to date. This last run of the current model is the best yet.

Wipers are great, but not for one to drive at great speed when its pouring with rain!

The new self-leveling HID lights on the 2004- cars are great.

The car doesn't have a LSD so you won't be getting an tail out action, just lots of whel spin from the unloaded rear wheel. I leave the ASC on and if you floor the car from standstill or going around a corner it's quite amazing the point it kicks in. Helps to learn the car first before turning off such gadgets!

If you are going to waituntill next year be sure to get the last edition XKR-S, as there are only a few of these made and are more special.

Thank you P700DEE & TRIPLE7 for your kind replies.

i heard the exhaust demo through my surround system & it was almost orgasmic to hear that v8 singing its heart out.
Reference jag rep , well triple 7 , he couldn't even gimme an idea of the servicing costs , go figure hey
but in all fairness to them they were as helpful as possible (letting me take pics etc..) .it could have s/thing to do with us here in the west country as long as it has 4 wheels and drives well why ask all these questions be it a tractor or an XKR lol
having said that i could swear he was holding a shammy & a bucket prior to the test drive

ok ok joking apart, i dont want to appear ungrateful,
I will update you in due course and thanks again
