2020 petrol. Had it 10 months, in for its 36k service at our excellent local indy. Visual inspection has revealed:

- broken rear spring
- battery only taking 55% charge
- rusted brake pipes all round
- rusted rear sub frame
- split in the power steering module box

Assessor has been called out to inspect the car as some of these are subject to a warranty claim.

Typical JLR product. We’re discussing what to replace it with now. 5 years old and only 36k miles and what happened to the comprehensive second hand car check at Sytner?

Very disappointing.

I fully understand your pain with a JLR product. My f type V6 has been nothing but trouble in the 9 months of ownership.
Its by far the worst car I have owned in my 42 years of driving. Yet my xkr was trouble free in the 10 years I owned it before the f type.

In all fairness most of that is normal wear and tear, we usually find batteries test as end of life from 2-3 years of age on the modern vw, we simply say if your not having any issues starting just carry on.

Rusted brake pipes, normal for any Mercedes

Rear subframe is normal for most modern cars they do the bare minimum to protect them

Broken rear spring, again completely normal

Steering rack is a known issue, companies refurbish them and again it affects other brands

At the end of the day it’s 6 years old, a modern bmw isn’t going to be any better.

Yeah thanks I get all that but all that going wrong in 10 months and 4k miles. I reckon some of it was a problem that the dealer either forgot to inspect or ignored.
