Jaguar dealerships gone. Has Jaguar shafted owners?

Jaguar owners will know this already, but I was surprised to find out that the three nearest dealerships to me have been shut down and Jaguar are decimating the number of dealerships overall. I've been considering an XJ, either X350 or X351 but if this is the level of support I can expect from Jaguar (especially parts availability, I think I'll be looking at a Mercedes instead. Jaguar are said to be pursuing Ed Milliband's madness of EV only, but have they completely abandoned and let down owners?
I really hope Jaguar turns this around and survives as more than a sub-brand to Land Rover. I think we would all love to see a thriving brand to rival the big names in this sector, however I just can't see it happening.
A Jaguar with a 4 cylinder engine is not quite right, and a 6 or 8 cylinder is far too difficult to get right with the current and future restrictions, so I see why an EV future could make sense. But a Jaguar is something that you would buy because you want it, and EVs just aren't pulling on the heart strings enough to be truly desirable (yet?). It is really sad, but the hard push on environmental credentials has meant that brands like Jaguar just cannot compete in their traditional way.

This has been going on for ages. My local one shut down a couple of years ago, and the closest one is now inside the Land Rover dealership in the next city.
Manufacturers simplifying their networks. Ford have been doing something similar too, a lot of their former main dealer garages no longer sell new cars, they are a used dealer and service centre only.
I guess a sign off the times, online sales, leasing and competition all taking a bite of the pie.

And no, they haven’t abandoned and let down owners. Not enough people bought new Jags. They had to make a massive change to hope to survive. Whether super expensive EV’s is the right move only time will tell - that shouldn’t stop you buying and enjoying the many great used Jags on offer.

An X350 is going to be 16-22 years old; an X351 is going to be 6-15 years old. Are you really going to take old used cars like these to a main dealer? A newer X351, if it has a full Jaguar service history, perhaps, but for anything older, there are plenty of Jaguar specialist garages.What do you drive now? Is that always main-dealer serviced?

This! OP's not actually a Jaguar customer and lets be honest their not going to buy their X351 from a Jaguar dealership either.It's no wonder they pulled the shutters down for a bit. Even if they did buy the X351 from a Jaguar dealership, you're a dealership customer only as Jaguar don't own the dealerships!
The dealerships will still service the both brands all the same so its not like anyones missing out, it just doesn't say "Jaguar" on the wall.

Losing dealerships doesn’t bother me, but I’m being selfish as I don’t buy new cars and my 3years old went straight to a qualified independent with warranty. I am however more concerned about ongoing spares availability as they move away from ICE. The current issue with their systems won’t help availability, although that’s not their fault entirely.

Only partly.Fashions changed, the world moved on, and the number of people that want a pipe, homburg and tweed jacket dwindled.
On top of that, Jagar listened too much to that small number of people that insisted tweed was still the way to go, despite being the people that only buy decade old, used tweed.

Dealers are for new cars really well mostly. Maybe if you purchased a new jag before they disappeared they would still be open? LooneyTunes said:

So what we are saying is that a company who have a reputation for poor reliability, who have reduced the number of models they sell, and are now stopping selling anything new for over a year having chosen to move away from their usual customers may be starting to collapse?
