I've been thinking about getting a Jag for a few years now, and as it's getting close to me 30th birthday, I think I'm about old enough now...

Goging to see a P reg XJ6 3.2 tomorrow and wondering what to look out for. Its done 82K, 1 owner from new and a full Jag service history. Price is 5.5K on from a dealer, but hopefully could knock a bit off that.

Any advice is welcome.

Welcome to the fold! I have never owned a Jag with a smaller engine than the 4 litre and now drive the 6 cylinder supercharged 4 litre X300. I am lead to believe that the 3.2 is a fine machine but others may feel differently. The important thing is that you have decided upon the Jag and set aside thoughts of German or Japanese manufacturers. The downside is that you will get sucked in by the marque and unless you are very unlucky and buy a real shed you shall be stuck with a Jag at every 'car purchase time' thereafter!

Good luck with the purchase and enjoy whichever model you buy!

Price range just now is about 5-6k, kepping the car for a year or two, then probably trading up to an XK8 when I've saved a bit more money.

I had looked at getting an XK8, but its just too much just now, I'd rather save for a few years and get a nicer one.

same same but different as they say round these parts.
i have had the jag feelin for years but didnt know what model to look at cost etc..in the end my circumstances changed allowing 20k loan to be applied for..which enabled just what you mentioned ie xk8 looked at loads as they came up and passed on loads for various reasons then ended up finding a 46k miler xk8 for just under 19k..and here i am with the car i dreamt of..although havin just shelled out £480 for a pair of pilots for the back and the 60k service is due i can say runnin the big cat is never far from your mind..i never expected to be spending every month on this or that..but it has not cheapened my love for the car..i can say that i am nearly broke but still luvin it..what ever you do..im sure you will enjoy..-ramble ramble the 3.2 sport is a good buy according to my dads mate who has a jag part no.

I thought I'd run an 3.2 Sport and then trade up to an XK8 in a couple of years too. That was about 9 and half years ago. She still sitting in the garage, and I still love driving her.

It's given trouble free motoring all that time.
Apart from yearly servicing the only thing that's been needed was all the bushes underneath were replaced a couple of years ago. Unlike my wife's Merc, even the receptionist at the local dealer now recognises her voice now, she's been in so so many times.

Every few years I've got itchy feet, and looked around for a new toy, but nothing has won me away from the XJ6. Recently thought of replacing it with an Aston Martin Virage, but came away saddenned to find I still prefer driving the Jag.

They can be addictive though, having given up looking for an Aston (for now) I've just decided to add an XK150 to the stable.

Welcome to Jaguardom.

Well, went to see it and it did look very nice, They didn't have the car out of the lot, so I couldn't take it for a drive this afternoon, I asked them to make sure it would be able to be driven tomorrow.

Then started talking money, I was going to trade in my Alfa 147 and take the hit of not selling it private to get a decent price. ITs a 1.6 Lusso 51 plate with full Alfa service, and only done 40k, they wouldn't go above 4600 for it, and wouldn't take a penny off the Jag, so looks like I'm gonna loose out on this one. I think I'll advertise the alfa and get a cheep run arround just now so if I see another, I'll be able to walk in with cash and snap it up.

If I don't see anything else decent when I sell the Alfa, I can see me going cap in hand to the Bank for 15k for an XK8...... DOH!!
