I bought a 5 litre XKR last month and I am loving it so far.

I hadnt driven one before hand and got excited at the prospect of some supercharger noise but I cannot hear any.

Anyone done any mods to theirs that help release some supercharger whine and or induction noise

Mine (4.2) gives a lovely mechanical whine from 3k. I also get a slight vibration from the glovebox when it winds up laugh

Interesting that yours is not so audible.

I think the 5.0 has less supercharger whine, which suits me as I must be one of the few that doesn't really like it!

Ah, thinking about it, they are different. The 4.2 runs an Eaton charger.

Yes I believe the 4.2 is quite audible unlike the 5.0

But I like the noise and ws hoping theres a way of releasing some unless it just doesnt exist.

Not much info about on these cars unlike the likes of my TVR and past motors

The sueprcharger on the 5.0 engines is quieter than that on the 4.2s. I had both and couldn't really hear it on either. To have any real hope of hearing it on a 5.0 car you'd need to replace the air filter boxes with open filters e.g. cones, attached to the front side of the MAF sensors. I spent a fair bit of time thinking on this, you have a couple of issues - one is that the airboxes are just in front of the wheel arches, you have to remove the arch liners in fact to access them to change the filters. Because they're so low you run the risk of water ingestion if driving in heavy rain/puddles etc. if you were to put in cones. Alternatively you could possibly remove the ducts that run down from behind the headlamps to the airboxes and relocate the MAFs up there and put cones or cylindrical filters there but there's really not a lot of room.

There was a company in the US called Mina Gallery selling a kit but I think it was essentially just some cones to attach to the MAFs low down behind the bumper - fine for California, not so much for Cumbria. How much induction/supercharger noise that actually results in, I've no idea. There are the Hemholtz resonators on the induction pipes (funny dead-end tubes coming off the main ones ) which are designed to reduce induction noise, amongst other things.

I’ve owned a string of S/C V8s. S Type R, XF SV8 and the 4.2 XKR all have a pronounced supercharger whine.

My latest XKR 5.0 has no discernible supercharger noise.

What year was your 4.2 XKR? Mine (a MY2008 car) had almost no supercharger noise at all, wondering if something changed at some point. I have heard others say they could hear theirs.

8bit mine was an 07 plate. To be fair, iirc, the S/C whine was less pronounced than my previous to that 58 plate XF SV8.

That's interesting, I know there were a bunch of changes for MY2008 (interior upgrades, deletion of the telescopic aerial etc.) but wasn't aware of any significant changes to the engine etc.
