2.0 or 3.0 F Pace?
Discussion
I've had a sudden desire for an F-Pace. My favourite car that I've owned in the last 10 years was a X351, which I sold after a couple of inlet manifold issues when it reached 90k-odd miles.
This was followed by an XF with the 2.2, which, after a while, felt completely underwhelming. I sold this and bought a Mercedes E250, another 2 litre engine, which went the same way. I vowed then to never have any undersized 4-pot motor, so had a nice CLS350, and then my current car, an Audi A8. But...now I want an F Pace.
There seem to be a dearth of 3.0's, but an overwhelming choice of the 2.0 variant. Speaking to a couple of mates who've owned them, they consider the 2.0 to be 'enough', but I can't help thinking back to my past experience.
I know the answer is 'test drive', and I'm viewing a 3.0 tomorrow, but what's the opinion on here? Interested in your thoughts. And anything I need to be aware of? Tomorrow's potential has 67k miles. Have JLR sorted the cracking plastic manifold problems of the past? Or is the later engine (8 years newer than my old XJ) a different animal?

We have a 2.0, one of the newer mild hybrid dervs rated at 200 bhp. It's 'ok' but pretty gruff, and really uninspiring. Not amazing mpg, usually around 40-45ish, and in every way is not as good as the 184bhp 2.0tdi we had in the previous Q5. Also doesn't seem to be as natural a pairing to the legendary ZF8 box, and nowhere near as harmonious as the presumably similar box in my 3 series feels. I do regret not going for the 3.0 as I think it would be a fair bit more pleasant!
I've got a 2016 3.0D S and love it. However you need to be aware that the service costs can be absolutely ridiculous at a main dealer (yes, I know that shouldn't be a surprise) - mine is in having the 112,000 mile or 90 month service, it is being done based on time as it only has 54k miles. I was quoted £2749 for this service. I got a quote from Jaguar for a service plan covering two services and this service gets quoted at £1807 so it is being under a service plan as the dealer quote is ludicrous - I get this service and next years for less than they were quoting for one!! The other thing is parts supply, car has been in for 10 days awaiting back ordered parts and no eta yet. If they can't complete the work by the end of this week it is coming back to me so I can go elsewhere as I can get the parts on ebay 48hr delivery - crazy.
Having said that, the car is fantastic and any major manufacturer, if you choose to use their dealer network, has their issues so you pays your money and takes your choice!

Thanks for the input, all.
I went to view an F-Pace 3.0 this morning. It had all I was looking for, option-wise, Caesium blue, and was a decent price. It was parked next to an I-Pace HSE, also in Caesium blue, for the same money.
So I bought that...
Can't believe how much they've dropped in price over the last year. Hope I hit the sweet spot.

I tired one the other week and really liked it, head and shoulders better than the F-Pace in every single way (except range, obviously ).I went to view an F-Pace 3.0 this morning. The only troubles with the I Pace is range and depreciation and the latter can be eye watering
Range isn't a problem for our use. My wife has an i3S, and in 3 years we've never used a public charger, even with a range of just 150-160 miles. The iPace has around 220-240, apparently. On the (very) rare occasions we go further afield it's not actually impossible to charge on a public charger, believe it or not. The A8 I've just traded in on the iPace had a range of +600 miles. I never once went more than 180 miles before stopping for a break of some kind.As for depreciation, that's the reason I bought it in the first place. I couldn't justify £40k on a 3rd car last year, but prices have dropped incredibly over the past 12 months. I rarely keep a car over year or so, so can happily swallow a £10k loss when I come to sell.
Anyway, picked it up yesterday afternoon, and it's a lovely bit of kit.
Useful thread, I've been to look at an F Pace today. 2.0 petrol Portfolio with 30k miles. I'm in an L322 Autobiography at the moment and I was very pleasantly surprised by the Jag, nice place to sit in.
I believe the 2.0 is the Ingenium lump though? I know the diesels are more fragile than a sparrow's egg, but does the same apply to the petrol? I haven't driven this one yet, and the 2.0-ness wouldn't put me off per se, but a £10k rebuild would?

When I see these threads I always want to put my experience in. I’ve had the 2.0 ingenium in my wife’s disco sport and we’ve had it 4 years and it’s not missed a beat.
Maybe it is a ticking time bomb but I’m hoping to hold on to it for another year so who knows.
I know you’ve picked an ipace instead and hope it treats you very well!

Lovely - I had a caesium blue one on a lease for three years from new - still miss it a bit two years after it went back. I have done a lot of 400 miles in a day trips from Preston to Edinburgh and back and my ix50 is massively better for that - though the charging network is hugely better now than when I had the ipace. The ipace needed two hours of charging (might be an hour now with improved chargers) but the iX only needs 20 minutes. Though it was of course more money I went to view an F-Pace 3.0 this morning.
