New X Type Owner here!
Discussion
Hi
Just taken delivery of a new X Type Sport Diesel, with 18" Aruba Alloys on.
So far so good, seems a decent drive, and looks the part in Midnight black with the mesh grills and de chromed bumpers etc. Im not a lover of the chrome on the other X types.
The car came as a package for a new job I have taken at work, so unfortunately I sold my TVR 4.2 Cerbera, which I'm missing like crazy, but to be honest, it would rarely get used now.
Are X Types welcome on this forum ? or is it classed as an upmarket Mondeo ?

New motor time - always exciting whatever the model.
To be fair, I think the majority on this forum (myself included) do regard the X-Type as an upmarket Mundano, however, probably very few of us have actually driven.
Is this your first Jag? My first introduction to Jag ownership was an 11 year old XJ40 and I remember the feeling of being amongst the motoring elite for the first few months - how does the X-Type make you feel?
Oh and BTW, welcome!

I have an X type and no its not a mondeo. That is stated by those who don't believe it's a true jaguar.
Do Bentley GT owners suffer the same slur, that's a VW in drag, or Audi TT that's a Golf in drag, I don't think so.Enjoy your X type JAGUAR, remember the S type is more heavily based on the Lincoln than the X is on the mondeo.

I criticise VW/Bentley, Audi/VW and Audi/Lambo for exactly the same reasons as Ford/Jaguar. The X-Type is not engineered any differently to the Mundano. It may have suspension changes and different styling, but the engineering is no superior, and it has less space, less spec and arguably less performance - all for more money.
For me, that makes it a less accomplished vehicle than the Mondeo. HOWEVER, the question of whether it is a true Jaguar is completely different. My earlier comments questioned how the driver of an X-Type feels. Ie, the subconcious level that Jaguar have historically excelled at communicating something special to the occupants. So, how does the X-Type feel? If it feels a more special place to be than a Mondeo, if it feels worth the extra money, if it comforts and cossetts the occupants, then it is a true Jaguar.
I can't answer that question, as I have never been in an X-Type.

I had a Mondeo hire car 2.0 LX TDCi 115bhp whilst waiting for the Jaguar, the engine and ride were good, however the inside was terrible, very bland and tasteless. The Jaguar handling feels better than the Mondeo, and the interior is fantastic, it is very comfortable, but yet supportive. I only wish I had gone for the Alpine sound system aswell.

I have driven numerous X types and Mondeo's they are completely different cars. I have a 2.5 Sport AWD, you cannot get AWD in the Mondeo, therefore the engineering is different, the engines are tuned by jaguar, Note the XJ6 uses the Ford DURATEC 3.0 engine, is that a mondeo? The XJ and XK engines are also found in the Range Rover & Discovery are XJ'S Landies?. The X handles very well on the twisty stuff and in AWD will probably embarrass the larger jaguars, especially in the wet, which happens a great deal in the UK.
The X is different inside and at it's price nothing compares for an interior of wood and leather. Where as
in the XJ segment most of the competition also provide wood and leather. Therefore for the price the X type does give its driver that feel good factor

Now this is an interior....................
X-Types, love the way they look, but Jag should have spent the money on the F-Type. Incidently a Cerbera to an X is a giant step back! Welcome however.

Sure is, I loved the Cerbera aswell, but I cant have both unfortunately. My employers certainly would not pay me the petrol that the Cerbera puts away, I used to manage about 15mpg tops with it. I only stop at the petrol station for sweeties now!

I thought it would be regarded as an upmarket mundano, however, I'm quite pleased with it so far. It does not have half of the presence that my Cerbera used to have or the exhaust note, but it is a totally different car.
Yes, this is my first Jaguar, I hope its a good experience!
Don't listen to the snobs
I have an X type myself, a fine car for it's class.
The interior picture on this thread is the same as mine, I went for one with the ivory leather interior.

Sounds good, midnight black, dechromed.
Always liked the look of the X Type.
Just disappointed with the interior (I actually prefer the Mondeo inside ) and the fact that Jaguar never made a performance model to justify those aggressive Jaguar looks.
Enjoy your JAGUAR

Bought my wife an X-type Diesel Sport Premium in March 2.0 litre 128bhp - same colour - does look the business.
Is your's the 128 bhp or the new 2.2 150 bhp? - one thing I have found is the throttle response is crap (regularly stall it when being let out of junctions, about 2 seconds behind when you press the throttle, but Reg Vardy say it's normal!!), and the fuel economy is nowhere near what Jaguar claim (they say it'll get better after 10,000 miles - well we're up to nearly 9,000 and struggle to beat 40 mpg, currently 34 mpg).
I'm also an ex-TVR owner (Chimaera 450 2001) and have just swapped it for a Boxster S (53 plate in Speed Yellow) - it's definitely the dogs whatsits!!!
I miss the TVR but the Boxster is a more day to day car.
I dont mind the X-Type.
Did have a bad experience with an early one (read my profile) and rue the fact that the R-Version got canned at the same time as the F-Type.
Plus points: Ride is sublime, even with huuuuge alloys and sport pack. Handling great, steering feel a little numb on the FWDers.
Low points: Spyshots of it 7 years ago.....the taped up 1996 old shape Mondeos gave the game away. It's front end over ornate styling. Interior.
It needs a facelift, and I know a forthcoming one with joined up headlamps like that of recent jag concepts will address
Enjoy your motoring though, as I'd consider one over the usual lot!
