So…
Seller apparently has another customer who has already put a deposit on.
Damage was obvious to the front end.
Self tappers holding trim together.
Missing trim.
Inconsistent panel gaps.
A green bracket under the RHS headlight.
Then we found a mouse hotel under the engine cover.
Hard pass.

Nice!
We went to Arun which was nearby and looked at their stock.
The good thing is this isn’t a time sensitive purchase, it’s a toy, so he can wait.
He wants a black coupe <£15k with ivory leather & walnut.
The right car is out there. This wasn’t it.
As an aside it’s really making me want an XKR.
They are insane value for money!

If he finds everything except the walnut, those panels can be swapped quite easily. Walnut is out of fashion so some people are replacing it with ally, c/f effect etc. That means he could find s/h walnut panels going cheap.Simpo Two said:

How much does he like a bargain?
This 5.0 XK on 110k miles is struggling to get a £6,900 reserve at BCA. Colours aren't quite right for him and it's had some crap paint repairs in the past but at trade these are comedy value. I'd not be surprised to see that finally sell for something starting with a 5.
They can really take the miles too, I've got a well maintained XKR with 136k on and drove a 24k one the other day and they feel exactly the same.
Excuse terrible photos, BCA seem to use a V3 Razr to take all their pics:
These are cheap enough to use as "use it and bin it" smokers now. I'd rather a portfolio over the base XK because you get nicer leather and more seat adjustment, but then an XKR costs little more to run and is a lot funnier....

Given he’s not massively handy with the spanners & has no experience of owning a ‘nice’ car I have steered him toward buying from a specialist with a warranty.
No point souring the experience of prestige car ownership on the first outing…
Agreed, and in addition he should go and see/drive a few, even if not the right spec, so he starts to learn what to look for and the questions to ask.No point souring the experience of prestige car ownership on the first outing…

That's the 'caramel' interior which is quite rare. Whilst I like a bit of difference, it's rather too much of a good thing for me.
In the top photo it looks like they've reversed it over a rock...

If you think that's bad then go find a 4.2 with the duck-egg blue leather (full of course) and walnut burr veneers. Can't find a photo now (thankfully) but I saw a couple like that back in 2013 when I was looking for a 4.2 XKR.
Ooh I've not seen one of those, it sounds like something made for the US market.GeniusOfLove said:

The one on the BCA site pictured above looks great in green too - pity I did not see that sooner since I would have tried to find a dealer to bid for it for me.
Like others on here also looking for a decent XK and the search goes on.

With respect I fear you don't have a clue and I mean that statement in all sincerity . My humble advice is to get yourself some knowledge of the various X150 iterations , find out how they were in their standard form before they passed into the hands of numerous owners and more often than not became neglected for want of servicing and proper maintenance . Almost 20 years down the line these Cars are still a very attractive proposition for many of us and its very easy to get seduced by appearances without doing the necessary due diligence .The one on the BCA site pictured above looks great in green too - pity I did not see that sooner since I would have tried to find a dealer to bid for it for me.

Your response above completely validates my comments . You have seen a mere picture of a 110,000 mile X150 and already based on nothing more than the vehicles colour you are prepared to find a Dealer to bid for you???? . There are plenty of good ones available and plenty of knowledgeable People on here prepared to help and advise and based on your comments above I think you clearly should take advantage of that .
