We’ve just acquired a low mileage (sub 20k) 2018 F-Pace 25t.

Our man who knows about these things says they’re pretty bomb proof provided you don’t go 20k between oil changes and do it every 10k. I’m happy to go with that as our other stuff (LR various) has lasted well using his advice for the past fifteen years or so.

Anything else we need to watch out for?

Timing chain issues ,poor quality materials and plastic guides fail at low mileages unfortunately ,get rid before it emptyies your wallet.

For a less doom & gloom opinion (If a little late):

The 25t is reasonably sound; It doesn't have the chain issues of the diesel so there's no mass-occurring doom to speak of.

There are a couple of minor niggles that I've resolved on mine though:-
1. The VVT Solenoids were replaced under a warranty program to update them from 1 oil passage to 2 - This can be done in 30 minutes on a driveway; Symptoms of having the "bad" solenoids are occasional EML's that will appear and disappear at whim, and minor stutters / slightly off running.

2. More noticeable, but can only be fixed by a JLR Dealer / Specialist:- the cooling fan would occasionally run like a hovercraft, full speed for no reason whatsoever. This is caused by a software bug, and can be fixed by getting an update to sort.

On the minor niggles front,

It does tend to drink a little tiny bit of coolant, but nothing I'd care to worry about at this point - 100ml every few thousand miles at absolute most.

Spark plug 4 is positioned annoyingly under the HPFP but you can get to it with the right shape of extension.

Other than that, I've yet to run into any horrifying issues at nearly 60k.

I've done all the servicing myself as per the inbuilt service minder, which is quite long interval servicing, (12k I think?) - If I've done anything I'd consider wild driving, I'd shorten the intervals a bit, but 99% of the time it is used for multi-hour motorway cruises so it's hardly seeing any wear in my case.

Timing chain issue is on the diesel rather than the petrol engine.

Is it reasonable to say that the petrol Ingenium is "ok" if serviced properly/regularly? I'm looking at F Paces and the 2.0 petrol in those is the Ingenium, I believe?

How do you find the F-Pace after a few month of ownership?
Have been looking for the 25t variant for the last couple of weeks as it seems to fit the bill for my upcoming requirements.
My long motorways commutes are hopefully coming to an end, and I’m considering moving to a petrol engine while retaining decent mpg for my 3x week 45miles commute plus the odd long journey.

Thanks

Apologies for the delayed reply. Only just seen this.

The 25t is a nice place to be and handles well. It’s very sensitive to tyres as we put a new set of all-weathers on it and it is transformed.

I would describe the power output as “adequate” rather than good though. 240bhp is barely enough and the box seems to be changing gear much more frequently than our other cars (FFRR and 6 series - both also ZF8). That said, it’s Mrs JW911’s car and as she came from a Freelander, her view is a bit more positive. She still misses her Boxster though. MPG within the low 30s with a mix of driving. You should see 40 on a run.

Personally I’d have gone for the 3.0S and taken the hit on mpg.

As for reliability, the CEL came on shortly after my original post. The specialist diagnosed a camshaft issue which would have cost £££ to sort. I did some Googling and found that the 25t is effectively a US market car as most of them were sold over there. There is an active recall in place to change two camshaft solenoids (as detailed above), all covered by JLR. Needless to say, they’re not interested here as it’s out of warranty. Our VIN sits right in the middle of the recall range so I had the solenoids changed instead for significantly less £££ and it has solved it. Don’t forget, it’s a Land Rover underneath.

Spend some time looking for the right car and I think you’ll do ok. Like I said, I think the 3.0 is probably the way forward really and stay away from the diesels.
