Boot switch not working on XF
Discussion
The boot switch switch on my 2012 xf started being a bit intermittent. So, £10 on a new switch with eternal optimism that it was an easy fix, but that didn't fix it.
That's when I found the forum posts on the loom being an issue on the xf. I removed the most likely section, the flexible link between the boot lid and body. Within the rubber section, the cable insulation had become brittle and snapped at each end on around 10 of the cables. The boot lid one being the one severed entirely. The fog light cable showed signs of scorching and shorting.
I've temporarily replaced the damaged sections whilst I source a new loom section, and all is good (thankfully, MOT on Tuesday). As a heads up, it's easy to replace. Remove the cover on the inside of the boot lid. Pull down the cover on the inside right of the boot. Pull back the red clip and push down to release the multi way. The rubber link just pulls free either side. One of the quicker jobs of late.

Yup, been there, done that, and discovered that the original owner of my XF had already bodged a repair of their own rather than doing the job properly...
iIRC the original looms were made ever so slightly too short to account for the flexing back and forth as the boot opened and closed, hence the early failure of one or more cores within the loom.

Mine is fully bodged up 🤣
I've got the MoT tomorrow, so a whole bunch of the links were cut out and replaced (with an extra inch, as I'd noticed they were a bit tight). The loom I need is on back order, but I should have it by mid December. (£58 Inc vat)
It was a little fortuitous, as I'd got no idea the fog lamps weren't working.
